Artist talk on Tuesday at the Horanggasy Creative Studio Residency Program in Gwangju, South Korea. The focus centred on my continued exploration in environmental-based work using the Natural Forms & Transference Methodology first presented at Bath Spa University, England, at the end of January.

Up early before the sun weighs down too heavy on my moistened brow. Collecting material for the first time along the Yeongsan river, the lifeblood of Gwangju, using a hydrophonic recording to make ultrasonic recordings as I get more intimate with the environment.

Getting to know the area of Gwangju, South Korea. I was awarded the residency which is funded by the local University, to promote cutting edge contemporary art and cultural xchange. The Director has invited myself and the other international resident’s out to dinner over the last couple of nights.

Arrived in Gwangju, South Korea, for my latest artist residency. I’ll be here until the end of June as part of the Horanggasy Creative Studio Residency Programme, staying and working in the historic Underwood Missionary House shown. Excited to absorb Korean culture for the first time.

In Feb/Mar I travelled to Latvia to work on a funded art residency in collaboration with another artist. Using lo-fi cameras the project was documented as we developed the new media work on the local area and surrounding nature. (Duration 4:35)

Are you ready Riga? Tomorrow evening, Fri 27th Feb, we play the Kaņepes Kultūras centrs (KCC) at 8pm. The work is an audio-visual live performance using geo-specific datasets and field recordings relating to the sub-conscious of modernity through symbols in nature.

Arrived at the Sansusi art residency centre in Latvia where it is a veritable winter wonderland.

Arrived safely in deepest central France. Very grateful to Creative Hub France and The Brother Charity for awarding me this residency and the house where I will continue my ecological/tech-based work in photography and audio, allowing deep focus over the coming 3-months.

Up early to complete my hydrophonic mic build. Using a piezo cylinder, the circuit is soldered which is then sealed in a resin with the protruding copper serving as a ground to remove hum. Just tested, looking forward to recording on my forthcoming art residencies abroad. #contemporary #eco #field
