I have to keep reminding myself that the first time being oncall for a product is probably the worst it’s gonna be, maybe. Like it sucks, everything is poorly documented, but I’ll establish the fast way to do stuff. I miss my weekend time though…

I don’t know who the target audience for this is but left Costco is better than right Costco navigationally but right Costco has more unique stuff.

Fictional depictions of real moments in history. I’m experiencing what I know many others are. This isn’t advice, more so an offer of perspective!

I’m ramping up on building Exploras. I think it’s made a genuinely positive impact on my weekends so I’m expanding the sights catalog. Once it’s properly available on the App Store I’ll probably distribute it throughout Nashville before expanding to additional cities :)

Is this the pacing we were talking about?

All right, we’re locking in. Only things being worked on are simplifications, more efficiency for more usage, groundbreaking features or new models. Sometimes you have to invest ahead of the curve, but feedback is clear that you all want things to get simpler. On it.

Dots and the commitment to lowering API prices such that subscription subsidies are no longer necessary might get me fully converted to OpenAI. I’ve been split.

We’re just gaslighting agents now. What do you mean the agent “isn’t aligned” if you put it in a weakly guarded test environment and told it to do exploit-shaped things… then got mad and scared when it did exploit-shaped things? And you’re calling the *agent* misaligned?

I’d love a world where total comp includes a supplementary token budget that is allocated to you in full and you can simply pocket the cash if you’re token efficient. I think that would be pretty sweet.

Ok so what I’ve learned from personal experience is that these models solving “age old problems” are actually just standing on the shoulders of all the people that actually made the novel discoveries and approaches but stopped short of a complete solution. AI is useful AND doesn’t deserve the credit

It is great that we can finish the research and go the extra mile. But I hate that the headlines basically make it seem like AI did all the work. Not even close. The search space was narrowed to something somewhat solvable long before any AI agent touched it.

I’m on a cut! I was on a cut for a while from 2023-2025 and lost 50lbs. After the stress of AWS and moving across the country I’ve gained like 25 back. So I’m on Huel and a workout plan. I’m gonna journal it. I’m targeting a ~60lb cut total. Cinnamon roll huel is like a 5/10 but I’m full so. 10/10

The goal of #exploras is to get me out of the office, off the couch, and into the world as an explorer. Having access to a map is lame, it’s like having answers to the test. So I simply make the map blank in places I’ve never been! This app will have subtle guides in the fog to help.

Okay today’s progress was beautiful! Shelters, pets, dynamic day/night/weather cycles, and some festive themes for the holiday seasons! #exploras continues to get cooler and cooler. Still need to make the copy better and get rid of some of those annoying UI elements.

Forgot to even mention campfire mode! A fun mini feature where you can temporarily link with other people with the app if you’re nearby. Idk quite what I want the mechanic to earn you, but I don’t want another social app where you can always see others. It’s about exploring, after all

Today’s #exploras journey was short, had to work from home again to finish getting over this cold! Tomorrow I will probably get a good morning walk in before work, should be fun!

The pillars of creation are so insanely cool to look at

Update on the experience on exploras though. Leveling system, achievements, little profile for my traveler, and daily recap for sharing on socials! Plus stats and stuff. The most exciting thing I’m gonna explore this weekend is “sights.” Landmarks and national parks across all 50 states!

My new pet project is called “exploras” and it’s a fog of war real-world map exploration that emphasizes exploring the world! I’m hacking my completionist tendencies to get out more and see more of the city I live in. It’s all on device right now, no selling location data. Coming soon to iOS!

I was very confused by whatever the bike laws were. There’s a bike light, it’s red, I have a mini cross walk to cross the bike lane then a normal cross walk to cross the road. I want to cross, my light is green, the bikes… keep… going… anyways? Very often. Anyways, jaywalking was the vibe.

Aside from those challenges, so much fun. Had a blast everywhere, loved the culture and the people were very polite for the most part. Now my filthy American self will fly back home to my precious car and sit in rush hour traffic every day again 🥲

Overall, public transport was very “accessible” in the sense that it accommodates those with impairments and disabilities. However, it remains fairly convoluted and inaccessible to folks just visiting. That’s fine if the city isn’t making a significant portion of money from tourism 😅

I think the biggest surprise has been Amsterdam. In the U.S., we complain about cars being prioritized over pedestrians. Amsterdam seems walkable, but it’s kind of a nightmare? I feel like pedestrians get moved below cars AND bikes there. Looking out for a car is easy. A bike? Uhhh…

Also the inconsistency of metro leniency. Some bus drivers or tram operators understand it takes some time to get on and off. Others will literally pull away while you’re tying to get out the door behind a flood of others. Enjoy your 15 minute detour :))

I know it’s asking for a lot, but the bus line, metro line, and intercity line were three different ticket systems which was a headache of its own. And very spendy compared to if I could have a universal transport day pass. Munich did have this and it was helpful but we weren’t there for long.
