It started, as all serious scientific thinking does: in a bar. I was reflecting on the nature of time, the essence of life, and our place in the Universe. (I was drunk.) this is what came out... agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.... #Geoscience #EarthScience #Geology #DeepTime

A parasite doesn't survive without its host. Ecologists have a word for relationships where one partner provides most of the resources while the other captures most of the benefit. Maybe it's time our publishing ecosystem evolved. scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/2026/07/16/g...

💎New preprint: The Rise of Diamond OA Journals in Earth Sciences A decade ago a few scholar-led, no-fee journals started reimagining Earth science publishing. We map the wins & the fragilities that will decide whether this scales. #OpenAccess #DiamondOA doi.org/10.31223/X56...

Following our latest publication with @romainvaucher.bsky.social in @sedimentologika.bsky.social , we wrote a piece arguing that scientists can, and should, reclaim control over scholarly publishing. A fairer publishing system is not a distant ideal. We scientist can already take action 💎

We joined @ucs.org to sue the Trump administration over a secretive effort to attack EPA’s bedrock determination that climate pollution harms public health. Now we’re releasing 100,000+ documents showing disregard for public health and science.👇🏽 https://www.edf.org/Z6CX
Very proud of this piece written with @romainvaucher.bsky.social Most research is funded with public money & written and reviewed for free by researchers : yet the results are controlled by corporations that set the rules and capture the profits. As an academic, you can help change the system!

Sooo @plosone.org lost my reviews. You guys are #clowns Not able to answer emails for 50 days, not respecting your editors, your authors nor your reviewers. Submission is retracted. Publish #Diamond #Openaccess 💎
just so you know, no sign of fossil fuel transition right now. This is not happening. All we do is talk, and continue as usual.
Atmospheric CO2 concentrations "surged" last year - a record yearly increase It's bad enough that we're continuing to burn fossil fuels, but now the world's natural carbon sinks (like the forests going up in flames) are failing too Fuck
