HeroQuest, a non-BRP Glorantha game written by Stafford, has such pearls as "Lunar Empire brings prosperity to conquered lands" and "this society is caste-based, but life there is so good that nobody cares to do anything about that", and it really makes me doubt author's morals

Today in my #solottrpg campaign - two forests declared a war on each other. Each forest possesses nature spirits, and the spirits of a relatively remote forest sent magically engineered beastmen to slaughter the spirits of the forest around my city, while also slaughtering half of our army.

dog idk how i tell you this, but "no warning label" is a warning label. i love this project has to warn people there won't be trigger warnings so they don't get triggered

@ half of bsky You can't really blame most teen boys for being nazis when your views are essentially nazism surgically altered to not trigger a ban. I, on the other hand, can absolutely blame most of you

I only have access to Champions at the moment, and reading through it really reminds me of D&D 4E (at least the section on running wuxia games mentioned reskinning powers). Bushido sounds like Fate and MSH as just half of the comedy games.

So, Bushido's downtime system that allowed players to change the setting in direct diagetic ways? Champions use of descriptions to frame mechanics (Special Effects)? Marvel Super Heroes "day in a life" soap opera structure? (yes thats TSR, I know) πŸ™ƒ

I can wholeheartedly believe that when they were published these games caused literal futuroshock, but today every third indie game has something from this and new and exciting things as well.

As an "archivist" of early TTRPGs, absolutely no. There were good ideas there, sure, but most of the games suffered from various "infantile disorders", especially when compared to cool-looking (but fucking expensive!) modern games, especially journaling ones. Reject nostalgia, become hyper-modern!

This applies to TRPGs too, and *no* I dont mean just the games from the dragon game company out of the midwest. There are a lot of good ideas and structures that were teased then discarded as "industry standards" were more-or-less imposed by distributors for how games should be played (choo-choo).
