It's the beginning of the wet season. In the dark, something haunts the frontier. Something hungry. Strange things stalk the treeline in the world of πΆπ‘Žπ‘ π‘π‘Žπ‘‘π‘’, my new comic! Early Halloween party. I’m aware of the issues with it not embedding or being scaled properly on the site, sorry about that. Seems efforts to fix the spread broke adding new pages somehow. It’s being worked on.

Thank you for all the feedback on the website in the google doc thus far- all of these suggestions are now action items of varying priority and I have deployed the codebeast upon them. Any who like to may provide further feedback here: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

It’s a good thing I’m so fastidious about taking progress pictures (Bit of an audio warning)

Here's a clean version of the ogratox illustration, since I think it really deserves to stand alone.

Real actual question I’m considering is what this account will look like once the website is the comic’s primary vector. It will probably mostly become an alert system for when new pages are added with cropped screengrabs from each update. Not sure if there’s a point to continuing the big thread.

In other news, the comic now has a website which is undergoing closed testing to work out technical issues, and will soon be released to the public. It presently hosts the next batch of pages, so that's when you'll be seeing those.

It is with a heavy heart that I must make an announcement. Bola's mouth has been in an anatomically impossible configuration due to an oversight. Her trachea should be at the back of her mouth & her tongue at the front. One more erroneous depiction is in the pipeline, after which it will be fixed.

I kid you not, I only learned it was #darksouls’s 15th anniversary because I just happened to look it up today of all days. Anyway, what rings u got?

On the off chance anyone thinks I was hit by a bus, no, work was just greatly slowed throughout August by The Job. I am presently working on pages 11-16 (and other peripheral concept work), and I've got a friend helping with a Mk1 comic site. The first half of chapter 1 is also just quite demanding

I'm also kind of holding out on the idea that the next update will be on a website, but it's hard to be sure. I'd like to start moving towards 2 page updates that are twice as frequent, and a website would make that far more practical than a bluesky thread.

May as well "quote post" with "tags" to expand my "reach," as it were. Thank you deckblue for letting me separate them from the body text.

Been trying to turn basically every day into a workday for the past month and that kind of caught up to me over the weekend so there’s a bit of a delay with the coming update which will probably make sense once the comic catches up to what I’m currently working on. Thank u for ur patience

As an aside it’s possible but not guaranteed that the next update will be the last one before I get a website, which would make it more practical to release 2 pages at a time with double the frequency.

For the sake of auditing my own progress a bit, I would say that actual illustration is about 75% of the work of each page, not including scripting and thumbnailing. I currently have pages 3-5 of chapter 3 sitting on the arrangement floor waiting for the last screws to be tightened.

I find the artificial sluggishness of releases as grating as anyone, but keep in mind that on the back end it’s been a significant improvement in my workflow and that almost (if not actually) 2 updates worth of work will have been done between last update and the next.

It’s likely that at some point I’ll integrate access to the page backlog as a new patreon tier once it gets big enough, but that’s a ways out yet, I think.

The backlog is currently 3 pages, and I’d like to bump it to 6 with my next update, which means having up to page 12 of chapter 3 done. Given that this is all alongside my full time Money Job, and I can only scan things 1 day each week, it’s hard for me to estimate when exactly that will be.

Since pages 11 and 12 are kind of strewn across several sheets that include some of page 13, I sort of have to finish illustrating that one too before I can start post processing 11 and 12. Highly improbable that an update will come this weekend, but probable that it will come the weekend after.

Pages 6-9 are fully illustrated, scanned, and waiting for post processing. Page 10 is functionally illustrated but shares a sheet with some unfinished page 11 panels, so hasn’t been scanned, and pages 11, 12, and 13 average out to ~40% illustrated, each.

And welcome to chapter 3! Bola finds herself in some moderately warm water. I've made progress on my buffer, pages 59-61 are done and 62-64 are each about halfway done- posting slows, but the work continues! (pp. 55-58)

Her customer service skills are top notch but her hands are too big for the cash register β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή

As always, work is ongoing, and as we approach the end of Chapter 2 I'm giving more thought to what the most effective work schedule may be. Chapter 1 was made in large chunks rather than 4 page batches, giving a period of rumination and a view of the big picture that was beneficial despite...

...in advance for the slowdown and only releasing 2 of the 4 pages I'm finishing in a couple days' time to start building up this backlog- after a month of waiting I'm not exactly thrilled about it, but know that this is in service of stockpiling pages and the good of the comic as a whole.

...the overall faster timeline. For the sake of a better comic long-term I aim to move back towards this regime and build a buffer of finished pages from which I can release on a regular schedule, but doing so means making pages faster than I drop them. As such a slowdown in updates is expected...

...as I'll make 6-8 pages for every 4 I release for the next couple of months. I also plan on making a website at some point in that time, since packing a whole webcomic into a bluesky thread is obviously unsustainable long-term. Anyway, what I'm leading into is an apology...
