Recently started popping in here again and it seems like a lot of other ppl I follow also haven’t posted anything in the past month. Has everyone been fatigued by this app?

🤍 Brilliant response to the funeral cliche and stunning piece. I relate to the game in the swimming pool of kicking your legs as hard as you can, testing if you could flee her shark jaws. “and we couldn’t stop laughing because all accidents are funny, depending on how you look at them.” 🦈

I have a CNF piece about my aunt up at @whaleroadreview.bsky.social today. She unexpectedly died in November 2024. This is what I wanted to say about her at her funeral that I couldn’t: that I was so angry about how ppl spoke about her chronic illness, and how hard she made me laugh.

Remembered Shenandoah mag was open today. Went to read the sub guidelines at 8 am. Went to the gym quick and checked to make sure they were still open at 9:30. They were. Finally was able to sit at my computer and submit at 9:45 and they were closed already lmao wtf like HAD levels there

Seeing ppl on ig post about reading a whole book in a day and it’s like…do you even like reading? Do you like indulging yourself and sitting art and taking the time to process it? Or do you just want another number on your reading list for the year? I do not find it impressive

I feel like I’m living In a dystopian novel written in 1993 that was rejected by dozens of publishers because it was incredibly stupid.

Who has a novel coming out in the next few months that I should definitely pre-order? Bonus if you know that author (or yourself, pls promote yourself!) is visiting Boston on book tour?

I’ve been trying to take advantage of my summer break and write as much as I can before I have to go back to teaching. But I don’t know how ppl can write all day. Like, ppl who have long stretches of time (break, retreats, etc), are you really writing all day? Do I need to brick my phone?

I missed out on buying tickets for Phoebe Bridger’s Lost Weekend planetarium experience, so I guess I’m going to have to turn off all the lights in my apartment, find a laser show on YouTube, and blast “Lost Boys” over and over while my cats watch me with intrigue, huh?

Two weeks in Japan, was lovely, for now I’ll just say this: Somerville Massachusetts needs a Record Bar.

I wanna go to a Tokyo club. But that means I have to stay up until the early 20 somethings go out. Am I already sleepy? Yes. Can I have caffeine? No, because that means I won’t sleep later. This is 30 baby, pls pray for me

Been thinking a lot lately about how I went to Brazil when I was 23 and went clubbing until 7 am. Truly one of the best times of my life, just dancing with my best friends. But I absolutely would die if I did that now lmao

By far the funniest moment in Homer’s Odyssey is when Circe says, “Shall we have sex?” and Odysseus says, “You just turned all my men into pigs. You have the GALL to think I would sleep with you? Of course I will. Absolutely. But don’t do any weird spells”

Now girl I was having a lovely morning until you posted this garbage

Elizabeth Warren@warren.senate.gov

I got to know Senator Lindsey Graham traveling with him abroad in Afghanistan and Ukraine. We had just met to renew the fight for our Big Tech bill. Even though we disagreed on much, he was always willing to negotiate, with humor and wit. My heart goes out to his loved ones.

Since I have the summer off from teaching, I’ve been trying to write as much as I can. Tried writing in my house and felt so stuck. Went to the library yesterday and today and the words are flowing and I have so much excitement about my wip. This is just to say, libraries are beautiful and rule!

I actually just discovered this essay yesterday and it should 100% be required reading for all emerging writers, imo. I particularly can’t stop thinking about the line “I’m more interested in how there’s another literature possible when people who belong to the status quo challenge it from within.”

I hugely appreciate @bonabooks.bsky.social's courage and transparency in reporting on this. I can't imagine trying to be an editor in the age of scammers submitting AI-written stories, and we *need* -- as an industry and as a society -- to do something about it.

Silence is the wrong response. That’s why today we are publishing ‘The Machines Are Coming For Your Masthead”, a report on our experiences, small press publishing in the age of AI. Read the blog. Download the report. Share your thoughts - we want to hear them. (20/20 - fin)

At the library and pass some old guy on his computer and “Espresso” immediately starts blasting from his computer. He doesn’t change it, just lets it play for a full minute, hell yeah

I really should not drink a large latte while writing this novel because, quite quickly, anxiety hits me like a truck and I’m like this novel is GARBAGE no one will read it and immediately begin hyperventilating

I meant to repost this earlier when I liked it and then got distracted, but, fuck, I love Anthony Bourdain and this poem is incredible

I’m so tired of reading novels about relationships b/t a student and her high school teacher. Idk if I’ve just read too many of them recently so I find the plot boring, but I want stories about young women finding themselves that don’t involve a shitty abuser disguised as a mentor pls and ty
