Today during Climate Week, Governor Gavin Newsom and I announced we've taken the next steps toward Washington joining the California–Québec carbon market in 2027. States and subnational governments are stepping up and leading at a time when the federal government is trying to dismantle...
It’s a deep point of pride that California is moving forward with the process of linking its Cap-and-Invest program to Washington’s carbon market, building on our existing partnership with Québec to cut emissions and toxic global pollution.
I appreciated being part of the U.S. Climate Alliance event at NY Climate Week. Gov. Ferguson is this year’s co-chair, and the organization is partnering with Climate Mayors to amplify their impact! @usclimate.bsky.social @governorferguson.bsky.social @climatemayors.bsky.social

As co-chair of the U.S. Climate Alliance, I'm proud of this partnership. We’re facing a hostile federal administration, intent on taking us backward — the governors and mayors that signed this agreement today are not going to let that happen. Together, we are a force.
I had the pleasure of speaking and engaging with NextCycle WA teams at the 2026 Pitch Showcase this past May. We’re so excited to announce that our applications are open for a brand-new batch of waste reduction innovators. Sign up by Oct. 30: www.nextcyclewashington.com/apply
We’re looking for teams with innovative waste reduction projects to join our NextCycle Washington program! ⭐ The six-month business accelerator program offers technical help, resources, and peer networks. Apply by Oct. 30 at www.nextcyclewashington.com/apply 🧑💻

The federal government granted my request in full for an emergency declaration to help cities, counties, the state and tribes fight our record setting wildfires, with the exception of debris removal. We have support for emergency shelters, food and water, search and rescue. Read more here:

Our record-setting drought and high winds are creating dangerous conditions across the state. I am declaring an emergency to help prevent loss of life and property damage. As part of this declaration, I'm declaring a statewide burn ban.

In Washington, we are committed to protecting our drinking water from toxic PFAS. Nationally, the U.S. EPA is proposing to weaken PFAS standards. I joined @doh.wa.gov Secretary Worsham and State Board of Health Director Davis to call on EPA to protect clean water. ecology.wa.gov/about-us/who...
Proud of the work behind this first ZEVergreen report. Our transition to clean vehicles is already underway, and the voices captured here will shape the next phase of that work. With clean, affordable electricity and strong support from across the state, we’re well-equipped to keep moving forward.
Ecology’s ZEVergreen report is out now 🚗 It summarizes barriers to clean vehicle adoption & potential strategies to address them—all based on feedback from communities, Tribal governments, utilities, industry, and… you! This input will guide the future of our clean transportation system. Learn more:

One example — we recently signed a carbon market linkage agreement with California and Québec, a historic milestone in joining the largest subnational carbon market in the world. This enables businesses to make more predictable, long-term investments in reducing greenhouse gases and accelerates...
Our state is moving forward as a national leader on climate, despite a federal government that seems hellbent on rolling back every ounce of progress. I appreciate Mayor Wilson and the attendees at the launch of PNW Climate Week today. What's happening in DC isn't stopping us.
This linkage agreement is proof that partnership still matters—and that by working together we can tackle big climate challenges. Thank you @governorferguson.bsky.social for your climate leadership at a time when it has never been more important to keep moving forward at the subnational level.
Historic milestone yesterday with the signing of a carbon market linkage agreement with California and Québec. This sets the stage for large-scale greenhouse gas reductions and long-term investment in clean energy across our jurisdictions. At a moment when the federal government is abandoning...
The series airs at 7 p.m. tonight on PBS station KBTC. I hope you’ll tune in! www.kbtc.org/watch-on-dem...

Our thoughts are with the families of those that lost their lives in Longview this week. Earlier today, responders recovered the final missing individual. @governorferguson.bsky.social has directed flags to be lowered to half-staff on Sunday, May 31, in their memory.
Historic day for WA: @mayorofseattle.bsky.social signed a settlement on Seattle’s Skagit hydroelectric dams. Together we’ll restore the Skagit ecosystem, reduce flood risks & preserve clean energy for millions of people. This is what we can achieve when we strive for a future we're all part of.
Thanks to a collaborative multi-partner effort, the Spokane River Basin is getting cleaner — but there’s still work to be done. This exciting new grant program invests $595,000 in Spokane watershed communities helping continue their momentum to address emerging contaminants like PFAS.

We have some of the best water supply in the nation because the generations before us had the foresight to protect it — but climate change is jeopardizing that. We need to work together now to plan for the future.
Today with @governorferguson.bsky.social, we launched Washington’s Water Future — a new initiative to build collaborative solutions to ensure our state has water for generations to come. Washington’s future will depend on the decisions we make now. governor.wa.gov/news/2026/go...
Proud to join @wsdot.wa.gov and CALSTART for the launch of WAZIP, a CCA-funded program designed to accelerate the shift to medium and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles. It's a great example of how leading on climate can deliver cleaner air, a stronger economy, and a better future for Washington.
Transformational change doesn’t happen overnight. It grows through shared commitment and continued investment. This is just the beginning, and the work ahead is critical — but the trajectory is promising. ecology.wa.gov/about-us/who...
Yesterday, I celebrated Earth Day by announcing Washington’s Comprehensive Climate Action Plan with partners from @wastatecommerce.bsky.social and Pierce County. This is our roadmap for reaching net zero by 2050, and it’s coming at a time where local leadership is more important than ever.
Addressing the climate crisis requires action at all levels, and this plan is a pathway forward that was built by local leaders and community members. We’re all working together to protect the health of our communities, lower costs, create jobs, and shape a more resilient future.
On Wednesday, I was joined by state leaders, members of the Yakama Nation, and representatives from local irrigators and the agricultural community as we declared drought for the fourth year in a row. And this year, it’s statewide. ecology.wa.gov/about-us/who...
Great to see Clean Fuel Standard funding support community driven projects that reduce transportation emissions. From electric resource vans to workforce development programs, PSE’s new grants are helping local organizations deliver cleaner, more accessible mobility options across Washington.
Funded by our Clean Fuel Standard, Puget Sound Energy’s new grant program shows how local ideas deliver real climate benefits. The program distributed more than $7.2 million to support community-designed projects that cut transportation emissions. www.pse.com/en/press-rel...
The damage climate change is causing, both in Washington and across our nation, is clear. The need to respond is obvious.
We’re suing to stop the administration from rolling back public health and environmental protections around greenhouse gas pollution. This illegal action simply denies reality: greenhouse gas pollution poses a danger to our health and our environment.
Today we recognize the enduring legacy of Billy Frank Jr. in Washington and across the nation. He was a tireless advocate for Tribal sovereignty, clean water, and healthy habitat — work that benefits all Washingtonians today.
Today is Billy Frank Jr. Day — a day to celebrate Billy's leadership, activism, and dedication to environmental stewardship.
Congratulations to Mindy Roberts! I look forward to continuing to work together for a healthy, thriving Puget Sound in your new role. The Ecology team is proud to have one of our alumni leading the Puget Sound Partnership!
Please join us in welcoming Mindy Roberts as the new Executive Director of the Puget Sound Partnership! Mindy brings passion, curiosity and decades of experience in protecting clean water and healthy habitat in Puget Sound. We are so excited to do great work together! https://bit.ly/4bw9VHB
Bold, collaborative action matters, which is why we continue our path toward forming a shared carbon market California and Québec to help protect our shared environment.
No state or province can handle the climate crisis alone. Working together will lead to greater progress in reducing emissions, as well as more predictability for businesses as they invest in clean energy and develop their own strategies for a cleaner future.
Communities across our state are experiencing the real impacts of climate change. Together we can cut greenhouse gas emissions, accelerate decarbonization and create more jobs and investments to support our communities.

This federal action is unlawful, ignores basic science and denies what we can see with our own two eyes: Climate change endangers our communities and our health — period. From historic floods to devastating wildfires, Washingtonians have seen the impacts of the climate crisis firsthand.
We’re working to streamline permitting and break down barriers in order to move Washington’s clean energy economy forward. We have huge opportunities in our state as we come together to get these projects built. www.youtube.com/shorts/37uM2...
Washington’s energy needs are growing – and clean energy offers us the best path to build that capacity quickly and affordably, while also protecting our environment.
I was pleased to join a panel discussion with @cleanandprosperous.bsky.social last week on how we can accelerate the shift to clean energy. We’re on the right path, and we need to pick up the pace so we are ready for the challenges ahead.
Yesterday I joined @governorferguson.bsky.social, @markoliias.bsky.social, and others to celebrate the launch a new sustainable aviation accelerator. This is a big step toward decarbonizing air travel and continuing our region’s global leadership in aerospace.
