I'm thinking about our winter women's sports coverage (Frost/PWHL, Gophers sports, pro volleyball teams debuting, etc.) — any particular stories folks want to see? I'm hoping to really spend some thoughtful time with deeper/more complex stories, and am curious what people are curious about!

Lynx/Wolves relationship is obviously different from Dream/Hawks with the shared ownership, etc. etc. Wolves moved a preszn game in 2024 during the Lynx's deep playoff run, and had a conveniently-low number of home preszn games (one) this year, which would have kept Target Center pretty free.

A lot of folks in Atlanta and the Bay will be out "sick" on Thursday, I guess

BREAKING: Game 6 of the WNBA Finals will be held Thursday at 12:30pm ET at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, sources told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. It will be a double-header with the Atlanta Hawks’ game, which will be moved to 8pm.

And some Instagram scrolling does confirm my initial thought, which was that next to Olivia Miles, that looked like "The Real Househusband of the WNBA" Zach Ellwanger (Maya Caldwell's husband). Seems to be the case!

INBOX: Not a shock w/ the MVP runner-up finish, but Olivia Miles is named to the All-WNBA First Team w/ Wilson, Clark, Mitchell and Stewart. Sixth rookie, and seventh Lynx player to earn First Team honors.

Local HS athletes: Olivia Braunshausen (Hill Murray/Penn St.), Annabelle Buccicone (C/SLP, Quinnipac), Allie Callinan (Holy Family), Kennedy Hochbaum (Minnetonka/St. Thomas), Taylee Manion (Hill/Gophers), Delaney Miller (Minnetonka/Dartmouth), Noelle Noble (Bemidji St.)...

Gophers WBB coach Dawn Plitzuweit talking about Tori McKinney and how her competitiveness will help her navigate her season-ending knee injury. Noted the team’s new starter is TBD and mentioned Makena Christian + freshmen as players who will be called upon more.

INBOX: Gophers' Sarah Paul was named WCHA Forward of the Week for her four points (2G, 2A) in Minnesota's series split vs. OSU. It's the grad student's first WCHA weekly honor of her career.

Really tough blow for Gophers WBB, which announced this a.m. that Tori McKinney suffered a season-ending knee injury at practice. The junior guard was coming off a huge FIBA U23 3x3 performance and was the team's leading scorer (12.7 ppg last year) w/ Big Ten All-Defense honors.

FINAL: Buckeyes 6, Gophers 5. Minnesota can't complete the sweep as Ohio State scores back-to-back goals within a minute, midway thru the third, to leave Ridder with a W. Dunne with the hat trick for the Buckeyes.

Heading into the third, all tied up 4-4. Gophers scored three straight, including Kreisz's game-tying goal at 15:20. Ohio State answered quickly, but a snipe from Paul evens things up again in the final minute. Gophers weathered 90 seconds of 5v3 midway thru the period.

Buckeyes lead 2-0 after the first, with goals from Mira Jungåker and Joy Dunne. Gophers power play goes 0-for-2. Definitely a more aggressive start for Ohio State today, vs. Friday. SOG: 20-14, Buckeyes, with some late chances ending the period mid-PP.

Game 2, Gophers hosting Ohio State. Gophers beat Buckeyes 6-2 last night. Can they complete the sweep over the current No. 1?

Buckeyes went up 3-0 seconds into the 2nd after a another power play goal from Joy Dunne. But Gophers' McCullough and Hovland cut things to 3-2 with over half the second period to play.

Game 2, Gophers hosting Ohio State. Gophers beat Buckeyes 6-2 last night. Can they complete the sweep over the current No. 1?

FINAL: Gophers 6, Ohio State 2 2x Milani, 2x Kaiser, Allard and Primerano with goals as No. 3 Minn. gets ahead early and beats No. 1 Buckeyes. SOG 37-28 Gophers, Clark in net. Rematch tmrw 🔜

End of the 2nd: Gophers 4, Ohio State 2 Milani puts Minnesota up 4-0 early off another PP goal, but Buckeyes halve the Gophers' lead. First, it's Dunne's PP goal four minutes into a five-minute major, then a goal from Raunio with 30 seconds left in the 2nd.

End of the 1st: Gophers 3, Ohio State 0 Buckeyes with the 12-9 edge in SOG, but Hannah Clark has come up big for the Gophers in net. Milani and Kaiser open the period with two quick ones, and Primerano closes it with a late PP goal.

👀 Gophers up 2-0 vs. OSU less than four minutes in thanks to goals from Adrianna Milani and Madison Kaiser.

My first hockey game(s) of the fall-soon-to-be-winter — No. 3 Gophers host No. 1 Ohio State tonight & Saturday at Ridder Arena

Will have coverage after both that looks at the series + the season ahead thru the lens of this test vs OSU My first time covering Gophers women's hockey, but I got to write about a few of these Gophers (and Buckeyes) at the MSHSL level!

Just like the AP All-Rookie team, we’ve got a tie for fifth, so it’s a six-player All-Rookie team this year! Fudd, Johnson, Taylor and Rice/Astier tied for fifth join unanimous ROTY Miles.
