We recently had our best performing resume of all time on ApplyAll. 2-3 interview requests PER DAY at peak. 20% response rate (unheard of in this market). Software Engineer. Their resume is 3 pages long.

The lifecycle of startup marketing: 1. You talk about your idea. 2. You talk about your product. 3. Your customers talk about your product. 4. You talk about your customers.

Ever try to write out your whole life so far? The details fade so quickly. What used to be a whole chapter is eventually just a sentence, then a word, then it's gone.

If you assume your enemies are dumb they will surprise you with their cunning. If you assume your enemies are smart they will surprise you with their mistakes.

Consciousness hack: 1. Record a video of yourself explaining how something works to send to a friend or coworker. 2. You will discover all the gaps in your thinking. 3. Delete the video. Fix your mistakes. Start again.

Current challenges & opportunities at work: - We bounced back tremendously from the holiday hiring slump with our biggest month every in January. - Bubble has become an albatross around our necks, slowing down product development & creating busy-work.

This could unlock enough capital to make our first engineering hires and start moving faster. But we're not just blocked by capital. bsky.app/profile/cast...

There are more things I want to build than time to build them. - CMS with automated application-status tracking. - Auto-applies. - Finish migration away from Bubble. - Integrated email inbox.

We're also blocked by tech-debt. Just now getting to the point of having a manageable code-base that we could actually onboarding more engineers onto & collaborate. bsky.app/profile/cast...

Why do we spend so much on our remote team? - All job applications are currently filled out by humans + tools. - Building out the auto-applier got stalled first by verification code emails (solved) then by no-code tools (migration in progress). bsky.app/profile/cast...

We've flipped that on it's head by working directly for job-seekers & remaining invisible to the companies. This has let us build up the supply side of the marketplace & aligned our incentives with an under-represented part of the market.

That's made it easier to grow! Because no one else does what we do as well as we do it. But now we've got a database full of 1000's of job-seekers & a track record of placing them at great companies. We should start working with companies that want to hire from our client list

Over time, I think we can automate most of this? And the human-team will help us cover 100% of the long-tail of edge cases + give us a gold standard to build against. bsky.app/profile/cast...

The team has been really helpful for quality control as well. Making a mistake on an application is very rare. The team catches user errors e.g. - broken email in resume - missing information - bad job fit - user not getting enough job matches

Why do we charge customers instead of companies? This is a question we get a lot and it's also our unique wedge into the market. Everyone goes after companies first bc they get excited by big commission cheques recruiters get. bsky.app/profile/cast...

- Our biggest bottleneck is the time it takes to onboard candidates. - Our biggest cost-center is our remote team who fill out applications & spot-check errors. - Our biggest revenue opportunity is to start serving the other side of the market & collect hiring commissions.

Last bullet point might conflict with goal of reducing refunds, because we are much better typically at job-search strategizing than our customers are. That's one of our big value-adds right now but how can we scale "@talmahaj.bsky.social reviews every customer"?

Why so involved? - We have a money-back guarantee if we don't get you at least one relevant interview. - We only currently support tech-jobs but people ignore our website copy & sign up anyway. - There is an art and a science to making a job search that's deeper than you expect.

I think the long-term solutions here are: - expand the kinds of jobs we support. - some kind of LLM-based customer-review bot that can auto-reject & refund bad fits. - give users more power to create their own job search.

How our onboarding works: - User signs up. - @talmahaj.bsky.social reviews their info & does one of 3 things. 1. Refunds them if they are a bad match. 2. Sends them feedback/refers to resume review workshop if their resume sucks. 3. Builds their custom job search bsky.app/profile/cast...

I am a creature of momentum. Notice a huge difference in how my brain works the rest of the day if I spend my first 30 minutes awake in production mode vs consumption mode.

We have two events scheduled to build and launch the garden. We have a horticulturalist on board to lead a weekly co-gardening. We've started a composting program in the attached co-working space.

> Got a bunch of free plants. > Started a compost bin on the roof. > Set up a growing rack indoors to get seedlings going. > Group-chat has grown to 22 volunteers.

If you try to scan or print a picture of a dollar bill, the print will fail. The tech is powered by a pattern of yellow dots printed on currency which printers detect and block. So if a person got those marks tattooed across their face, could you still print their driver's license?
