How do butterflies respond to grassland restoration and intensification? 🦋 ⏱️ Communities shift within just 1–2 years 🌿 Extensive grazing favours grassland specialists 📉 Intensification reduces species richness and butterfly abundance 📄https://doi.org/10.1016/j.agee.2026.110731

In Catalonia, the mean elevation of its distribution has increased significantly in recent decades, suggesting a role for climate change. Vegetation encroachment may also be contributing to its decline, given its preference for open habitats.

An important piece of research that could help save our vital nocturnal pollinators

The Dark Sky Ambassador@darkskyambassador.bsky.social

Amber LED street lights could save millions of insects. New research shows 1800K amber LEDs cut insect attraction by ~40% compared to standard white LEDs, emitting almost no blue light. The study tracked 71,000 bugs across 6 German railway stations. #LightPollution #Insects #Wildlife #DarkSkies

Shocking decline. Pleased to say it is more or less stabilised in UK, largely due to conservation effort after a big decline. Completely different habitat here where with feeds on Succisa pratensis in damp or calcareous grasslands.

Important new study showing the complexity of butterfly declines. Cold adapted and habitat specialists are doing worse due to climate change and agricultural intensification

Felix Neff@felixneff.bsky.social

📄Out now 📄: 90-year trends in Switzerland show declines in butterfly and saproxylic beetle richness around the mid-20th century, linked to agricultural mechanisation. Some groups have recovered in recent decades, especially warm-adapted species. Specialised and cold-adapted species remained low.🦋🪲
