Autumn weather finally settling in. We had rain. We have cool mornings. We have sun that a person can stand in and not burst into flame. Indoors and out, the temperature is pleasant. Wintering sparrows are settling in to the yard. What a relief.

Got to share the concept of enshittification of the internet with a woman from my quilt guild. Wrong information about the location of our upcoming quilt show is on google. Sigh.

I think I need to put together a halloween costume for an upcoming meeting. Really not sure what that could be. I have not worn a halloween costume for a very long time.

October 6. 98°F. I am supposed to be wearing puffy vests, eating soup, and working in the yard all day. But this seemingly endless heatwave has me retreating inside, brewing yet more iced tea, and dressing in the lightest weight clothes I have. I am sick of this shit.

Sewed a few quilted zipper pouches today, in my migraine postdrome. Working on my inventory for the December show/sale. Will there be any buyers this year? Who knows!

Woke up in a migraine. Took all the pills, drank water, ate sugar. Slept again around noon. Evening finally caught some relief. A wasted day.

We are having an irruption of Red-breasted Nuthatches. Been hearing them last couple weeks. Finally caught sight of some this morning. Just a wonderful sight. 🪶

Couple of California Scrub-Jays were locked in battle on the ground today. Others were squawking all around. I shouted at them to break it up, and everyone in a cloud of dust, leaving behind a cluster of feathers for evidence of the fight. High drama!

Finished the soil moving to fill up second raised bed. Planted seeds and watered well. Still lots of other outside projects to do, like move wood chip pile, but that will wait for cooler weather.

Dream Quilt 60 by 60 inches Machine pieced, machine quilted (domestic machine) I put this in the county fair and won a blue ribbon for it. The starting colors of blue and yellow came to me in a dream.

I have a new friend who is quite sarcastic, and the thing I am noticing the most is that I used to be much more that way and don’t know when I stopped. Maybe during 2020-2022? I also notice how obnoxious it seems to me, and I shrug; figure it is my karma to take it now. Lol.

The tree service is here with their chainsaws and other noisy machines. I am preparing for a potentially wet, stormy winter. I will get to keep the giant pile of wood chips for the backyard.

Someone in my organization used the vistaprint “ai” to make a yard sign with three words on it. Managed to not totally lose my shit in a room of nice old ladies.

One of my chickens has bumblefoot on one of her feet, so I get to soak her feet and bandage the bumble one everyday until it is better. She is a good patient for a chicken who does not prefer being handled.

Unsubscribed from another quilt related newsletter. Told them it was due to their use of chatgpt. They said that was hilarious and that I was missing out on a great research tool. They used it to research “dog days of summer.” Lol.

The woman said “i put the photo into chatgpt,” and i stuck my fingers in my ears and looked away. When she was done, I told her that ai had destroyed my industry. Will that stop her? Nope.

I have had these tiny triangles for a while. Picked up from the scrap bin at sew studio. Needed a break from other sewing stuff, so I worked on this for a few hours today. The hsts are about 2 inches. #quiltsky

The checker man at the grocery store thought it would be cute to play keep away with my change. I did not lose my shit, but came close. Just stared him down until he handed it over. But like, what the fuck is he thinking?

There was a little plumbing issue today, and I went to the internet to find out how to snake a bathtub drain, and let’s just say I am going to rely on books from now on. The ai slop pictures of snakes in bathtubs were copious! Just bonkers!

The visiting Bullock’s Orioles had a successful nesting season. Doubtless in the palm tree nearby. Northern California, Sacramento Valley. 🪶

Loved this episode about … quilting.

The ballot for California Governor has a very, very long list of candidates. My neighbor warned me, but I wasn’t ready for the mountain of names. Lol.
