It has been minute since I introduced myself. Hello! I am Carol, the artist and maker behind CCreech Studio. Curiosity leads the way here! More specifically, curiosity about the natural world and a deep pull to create. I do lots of drawing, but also love the tactile challenge and satisfaction of

Tiny triangle journal! This is about 2.25” long x 1.50” high. I have always wanted to turn the extra scraps of paper from other projects into a tiny journal. This was a fun one! #copticstitchbinding #trianglejournal #tinyjournal

Small bookbinding model update! This one is the Australian binding or Australian reverse piano hinge. This structure allows for a great deal of flexibility, lays flat, and has removable pages! The key is the accordion inserted into page that is secured with a piece of card stock. #reversepianohinge

SciArt September, Day 30: Carbon. Last day! I finally finished. This is a carbon nanotube. Some are single-walled and others multi-walled. These exhibit remarkable properties, such as exceptional tensile strength and thermal conductivity. 🐡🎨 #sciartseptember2026 #carbon #nanotubes

SciArt September, Day 29: Pelt. Many animals have fur that camouflages them in the environment. Leopard fur has beautiful, patterning that resembles the dappled sunlight of their surroundings. 🐡🎨 #sciartseptember2026 #pelt #leopardfur

SciArt September, Day 28: Linen. Linen is thread made from the fibers of the flax plant. This is a cross-section of the stem of a flax plant. 🐡🎨 #sciartseptember2026 #linen #flax

SciArt September 2026: Quill. This is a messily rendered lowland streaked tenrec (Hemicentetes semispinosus) It is a small mammal found in Madagascar. It has quills, some of which can be detached in defense. 🐡🎨 #sciartseptember2026 #quill #tenrec

SciArt September, Day 26: Cedar. Thuja plicata, also known as western red cedar, is a large coniferous tree in the cypress family, native to the Pacific Northwest of North America. Its aromatic and rot resistant wood is used for many purposes. 🐡🎨 #sciartseptember2026 #cedar

SciArt September, Day 24: Down. One of my favorite birds, herons, have powder down feathers. These grow continuously in strategic areas of the body (like the chest) and the tip breaks down into a fine, talcum-like powder that the birds use to clean their feathers, much like a dry shampoo. 🐡🎨

SciArt September, Day 23: Copper. This is a copper spear point from the Old Copper culture from the Archaic period of North America’s Great Lakes region. 🎨🐡 #sciartseptember2026 #copper

SciArt September, Day 22: Silk. I did not realize how many different insects create silk. These are green lacewing egg sacs suspended on a rigid silk strand that is excreted and hardens after it is stretched out. The structure is unique and being researched as a biomaterial. 🐡🎨 #silk #greenlacewing

SciArt September, Day 21: Kaolin is a clay mineral used for many things. QuikClot is a brand of wound dressing that is impregnated with kaolin which works as a hemostatic agent to stop hemorrhaging. 🎨🐡 #kaolin #sciartseptember2026

SciArt September, Day 20: Meander. This, of course, made me think of waterways. I decided to feature the three rivers of Pittsburgh, near where I grew up in western PA. 🐡🎨 #meander #threerivers

SciArt September, Day 19: Star. This is the nose of the star-nosed mole (Condylura cristata) which is a semi-aquatic mammal native to eastern North America. Its nose has 22 fleshy appendages to help detect prey in darkness. 🎨🐡 #sciartseptember2026 #star #starnosedmole

SciArt September, Day 18: Almond. As I looked up almonds, I realized I had never heard of green almonds! These are almonds before they have had a chance to ripen. With a fuzzy outer skin, similar to a peach, the flesh inside is creamy, pale and almost jelly-like—and you eat the whole thing! 🐡🎨🌱

SciArt September, Day 17: Eyelet. Eyelet shapes resembling small windows form in plant leaves like Monstera. These can influence photosynthesis by affecting light absorption and gas exchange. 🐡🎨🌱 #sciartseptember2026 #eyelet #monstera

SciArt September, Day 16: Scallop. Scallop are a common name that encompasses various species of marine bivalve molluscs, which are found in all of the world’s oceans. 🎨🐡 #sciartseptember2026 #scallops

SciArt September, Day 15: Honeycomb. Fossil coral often has a honeycomb-like pattern from the mineral replacement of the original, calcium carbonate skeletal structures over millions of years. 🐡🎨 #sciartseptember2026 #fossilcoral #honeycomb

SciArt September, Day 14: Crescent. Caulobacter vibrioides is a bacteria with a unique structure that forms a crescent. It is known for asymmetric cell division, producing two distinct daughter cells: a mobile “swarmer” cell and a stalked cell. 🐡🎨 #crescent #sciartseptember2026 #bacteria

SciArt September, Day 13: Diamond. I thought of the diamond-shaped paper packaging that I have been playing with lately. The structure is very flexible and can be stretched as needed. 🐡🎨 #sciartseptember2026 #diamond

Sneak peek! A collection is coming together! 😁 Here are a few more of the sycamore cyanotype series I have been working on. I have completed about 12 pieces so far. I love seeing what the shapes tell me as I start so add the line work. What is your favorite part of working in a series? 🎨

SciArt September, Day 12: Teardrop. Tektites are natural glass formations from terrestrial debris ejected during meteorite impacts. Moldavia is a rare, green gemstone that is also a tektite, found in parts of the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany. 🐡🎨 #tektite #teardrop #moldavite

SciArt September, Day 11: Heart. Both octopus and squid have not one, but three hearts! There is the main, systemic heart that pumps oxygenated blood to the rest of the body and two branchial hearts that pump blood to the gills to be oxygenated. 🐡🎨🦑 #sciartseptember2026 #heart #squid

SciArt September, Day 7: Woad. Woad is a plant that produces a blue dye. Since the prompts this first week are focused on color, I broadened my subject and went with a blue/green algae, or Cyanobacteria. This often produces toxic blooms on bodies of water. 🐡🎨 #woad #cyanobacteria

SciArt September, Day 9: Ivory. Fascinates to learn about different animal ivory via cross-sections. Here, elephant ivory has a distinctive cross-hatch pattern (Shreger lines) vs narwhal ivory which is more hollow in the center and has concentric growth rings. #sciart 🐡🎨

SciArt September, Day 8: Ruby. This small bird is the Ruby-Crowned Kinglet (Corthylio calendula) Males have olive plumage and a bright red crest on top of the head, often concealed. 🎨🐡 #sciartseptember2026 #ruby #kinglet

SciArt September, Day 7: Fawn. This is a Fawn or Deer Mushroom (Pluteus cervinus) found on rotten logs, roots and tree stumps in eastern North America and Europe. 🐡🍄🎨 #sciartseptember2026 #deermushroom #fawn

SciArt September, Day 6: Coral. I thought of the sea and coral reefs and that led me to nudibranches. These are colorful, marine gastropods, and I knew I could find one in coral pinks. This is Verconia alboannulata. 🐡🎨 #sciart #coral #nudibranch #sciartseptember2026

SciArt September, Day 5: Saffron. I love a bright yellow bird! This is the Saffron Finch (Sicalis flaveola) which is a tanager native to South America. 🐡🎨 #sciartseptember2026 #saffron

SciArt September, Day 4: Azure. A daily drawing challenge is sometimes just that - a challenge! Clouds are trickier than I thought! So, I invite you to focus on the brilliant azure sky 😂 🐡🎨 #sciartseptember2026 #azure

So I am still immersed in cyanotype and working on my other series. But am also playing! This expandable, brown paper packing makes for some really neat prints! 🎨 #cyanotype

SciArt September, Day 2: Violet. My mind was on dyes. This is the molecule for methyl violet or crystal violet. Often used for purples in textiles or deep violet inks and paints. It also has a range of other uses, including gram staining for bacteria. 🐡 🧪 #sciartseptember2026 #methylviolet #violet

Sciart September has arrived! Day 1: Malachite. This made me think of the beautiful, metallic green and gold Common June Bug beetle (Cotinis nitida) I used various pens, including metallic bronze) to give a sense of the color. 🐡🎨 #junebeetle #sciartseptember2026 #sciart

Ok, since I was up I couldn’t resist one more look at peak. Changed my settings just a touch to have a 3-second night-mode and captured some of the red. #sturgeooon #mooneclipse 🌕

Prepping for this fall’s SciArt September! Found two drawings from a previous round (maybe 3-4 years ago?) Looking forward to seeing what the prompts inspire this year! 🎨🐡 #sciartseptember #sciart

Really enjoying this series I am working on! Cyanotypes with intuitive line work on top. Each is unique and I never know how it will turn out until it is done. Stay tuned as there are more to come! 🎨🌱 #cyanotype #penandink #intuitivedrawing

Inchie Challenge — the week’s drawings all together. This was a fun way to play around with ideas and mediums, without being intimidating. A two-inch square takes the pressure off! Thanks to @amymaricle for this great experiment! 🎨#inchiechallenge2026

Last day of the Inchie Challenge! Day 7: Complicate. This brought to mind complex molecular interactions in biochemistry, usually depicted as bubble structures. 🎨🐡#inchiechallenge2026 #complicate

Inchie Challenge, Day 6: Eucalyptus. Did a quick watercolor sketch of two varieties of leaves - the long leaves of the tree and the “silver dollar” variety often used in flower arrangements. 🌱🎨 #inchiechallenge2026 #eucalyptus

Combining several of my favorite things! Intuitive drawing on top of cyanotype prints of sycamore bark. I feel like this one is bringing fantasy landscape, geologic features and ancient artifacts to mind. What do you see? Definitely planning more of these. 🎨#sycamorebark #cyanotype #intuitivedrawing
