The Anglican tradition, as I have received it: "the absolute priority of the Bible, a catholic loyalty to the sacraments, and a habit of cultural sensitivity and intellectual flexibility." βš“ --Rowan Williams

In your charity, please pray for us in the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota gathering in Convention. May its motto be its guide: "Peace Through the Blood of the Cross". βš“

October, And the trees are stripped bare, Of all they wear, What do I care? October , And kingdoms rise, And kingdoms fall, But you go on, And on. --U2

For Michaelmas. Not in flights of romantic fantasy, not in abstract curiosity, nor in occult bemusement; but in the immediate concerns of our relations to one another in a dispirited world, we are called to ally ourselves with the spiritual powers of God’s providential care. --Robert Crouse

I've been giving the good news from the report, but here's the more critical, growing edge: The study identifies personal invitation as among the strongest leads for an engine leading to growth, and we're doing next to nothing to capitalize on this. #TECTrajectory πŸ“•

The tragic degradation of trust: As a CDN who lives in the USA, I once enjoyed describing Canada to my American friends and family, and describing America to my Canadian friends and family. Now I dread these conversations. Here's to a restoration of trust.

Canadians, tell me where in Canada you're from, without telling me where in Canada you're from? πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ (As for me, I'm from the home of these two Canadian icons).

Have to admit the emotional letdown this morning. The World Cup provided this preacher with a month of sermon illustrations. Now I need to go and watch the Odyssey, or something, right?

Patience trains up the longing. Wait, for he waits. Walk on steadfastly that you may reach the end. He will not leave that place to which you are moving. --St. Augustine

Worship the Lord in the Beauty of Holiness. After several weeks of travel--Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Tennessee, Wisconsin--it is good to be settled back at Messiah, St. Paul, for the next month.

Happy Father's Day to all those who are blessed to share the privilege. In the words of that great Canadian, Red Green: Remember, I'm pulling for you. We're all in this together. πŸ˜‰

Come Holy Spirit, come like a fire and burn. Come like a wind and cleanse. Convict, convert, and consecrate our hearts to our great good and to your great glory. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. --Fleming Rutledge βš“

I was invited to write about Messiah's experience with Renewal Works, an initiative of the Forward Movement. It is "a discipleship initiative to orient parishes around the goal of growing spiritually". Being a "renewal" parish, I share it with Pentecost in mind. Link below.

In heart and mind thither ascending! "Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven". The Ascension window, Messiah, St. Paul.

It might be bending the rubrics, but whenever I pray the Litany I've been praying this for the three postulants from Messiah, St. Paul. I am happy to report that two have recently been made candidates for ordination. βš“

In our sickness we need a savior, in our wanderings a guide, in our blindness someone to show us the light, in our thirst the living water...We dead people need life, we sheep need a shepherd, we children need a teacher, the whole world needs Jesus! --Clement of Alexandria

I was delighted to be with the Rev. Chris Boehm Carlson, Messiah's former Curate and Priest Associate, who has served as Priest in Charge at the Church of the Hoy Communion, St. Peter, MN. Rev. Chris was inducted as Holy Communion's next Rector by Bishop Loya last Wednesday. βš“

Great wisdom here.

My advice to lectors: 1. Speak/read slowly. Pause as appropriate 2. Don't dramatize the reading. Scripture pushes itself. It doesn't need you. 3. Practice multiple times, some aloud. 4. Believe what you are saying, or trade it off. πŸ•―

Let it be accounted folly, or frenzy, or fury. It is our wisdom and our comfort; we care for no knowledge in the world but this, that the man hath sinned and God hath suffered; that God hath made himself the sin of men, and that men are made the righteousness of God. --Richard Hooker

Making plans to attend this year's Atlantic Theological Conference, as "An exploration of the Anglicanism which defined Dr. Crouse, we will consider, amongst others, poetical sermons and writings of Lancelot Andrewes, John Donne, George Herbert, John Keble and Austin Farrer". βš“

The strife is o'er, the battle done; the victory of life is won; the song of triumph has begun. Alleluia! The powers of death have done their worst, but Christ their legions has dispersed. Let shouts of holy joy outburst. Alleluia!
