Hay Fever was great yesterday. Busy stage door afterwards! Met Christine Baranski (classy lady), Richard E Grant (classy gent) and ofc Charles. He got a little cheer when he appeared, which was great to witness, and he made his way down the line soon after Richard.

We greeted each each other, and he mentioned he couldn't stay long due to being in a rush (and trying to sign autographs for a fair number of people) which was fair.

I did manage to ask what it was like playing Richard instead of Sandy like he did in '06, and he said he'd always wanted to play Richard, but he was too young at the time He could've got away with playing David Bliss, but I'm glad he didn't as he spends most of Act 1 off stage. It's not a great role

Earlier that day, I witnessed a woman bolt it down St Martin's Court after spotting Richard E Grant leaving stage door after the matinee, screaming "RICHARD, RICHARD!!" He clearly did not want to be disturbed, but she caught up tp him, and he had no choice but to pose for a selfie. Simply appalling.

As with previous NT Lives, it will likely start with a nationwide (and possibly global) cinema release, then will be made available for online streaming.

Nice to see pics of Christine Baranski and Richard E Grant doing stage door and getting all the love. But the only stage door of Charles was from someone who hadn't even seen the show. Hope people show him, and Nancy etc. the love too 🥺

I'm getting a sense that the big name stars of Hay Fever are being outperformed by the "lesser" stars, namely Charles and Nancy Carroll, according to many theatregoers.

Richard and Christine are mainly screen actors, so performing on stage doesn't come as naturally to them as it does with Charles and Nancy, who are never off the stage. Press Night reviews will be interesting.

Rumour: Very strong possibility Charles's Hay Fever is going to be filmed and later released for an NT Live broadcast.

Exhibit A: on the booking website, three performances are marked for filming, with one specifically for trailer purposes. Exhibit B: I got a DM stating that the producers of the play, Wessex Grove, have had many of their shows filmed for later release eg. All My Sons with Bryan Cranston.

Wessex Grove were also responsible for the NT Live broadcast of Best of Enemies, which Charles starred in before being replaced by Zachary Quinto, due to Rings of Power filming commitments. So we never got an NT Live of Charlie's BOE... But we got to see his Celebrimbor shine instead.
