The UK needs more events so check this out!

Mad Fur It@madfurit.org.uk

We need to be real with you. We were Mad Fur It all along. Our website with all event info is NOW LIVE at: madfurit.org.uk We're Mad Fur It. Are you?

Cheeky bastards lot a fire in a cable duct to ensure the power tripped when in fact it was our old telephone cables, they came back the next night and cut them off the old bridge, all that risk for £30 at best!

Had to nip back to site because one of the 12kV vacuum breakers wasn’t working correctly and needed changing out, time for a game of “VCB Yeeting”, I’m pretty much the only person here with the wrath of qualifications and industry experience to be signed off to work on this.

I don’t know why I have a reputation for over engineering things, incidentally here is the tig welded stainless extractor canopy to go over my barbecue and the steelwork to hold it to the gazebo.

Finishing off the last after work MOT and I get a call from one of the Sri Lankan folk whose wife had broken down with the family in the car, I bowl over to them and find the earth cable to the engine broken, the odds that I happened to have the lugs and crimper in the car were somewhat long!

Between us we didn’t have a 10mm spanner so temporarily had to put the lug under a different bolt. It meant I got home much later only to find Danuka at the house having brought a batch of home made curry, it turned out to be a good day!

With registration opening soon, are you happy to attend Confuzzled knowing what it's management have done and continue to do to its volunteers? Personally I think that if you are fine with it you shouldn't let the door hit you on the way out of the community. #BoycottConfuzzled

Today was the annual village barbecue, all I had to do to get a free burger was provide the barbecue and the slush machine! On a serious note though, I do always support the village events because we still have a good community spirit here which is pretty rare these days.

Neighbour at 4:30pm: could you MOT this fiesta for me because my usual car has broken down. Me: well, I guess my afternoon plans just changed.

I can’t say I disagree, boycott has two t’s though.

Furs are generally good at standing up online to things like people using AI art but tend to be pretty bad at taking actual action when needed but in this case, its very much needed and we should start standing up against events that are behaving this way. #BoycotConfuzzled

Memories on the phone just pinged me this picture of the old boy 10 years ago, before he died, he would be 20 ish here. Heart medication got him another 18 months of reasonable life quality.

Sometimes it can be funny if not a little depressing to look back and realise you’re getting older. Ceil as a character dates back to Teenage Jez in 1993. I first attended Londonfurs in around 2002 and first attended a fur con over 20 years ago. I’ve always been that person in the background…

That quietly makes it happen, organising meet ups since the 90s, providing the backbone of a few conventions, pulling in favours here & there (like the Helicopter at CFz). I am sort of uniquely skilled in terms of event organising with a side of coal face engineering & a weird normie friend group.

On Tuesday we were able to get the last of the work done, the transformer output was out of phase to the existing infrastructure thanks to a pitch filled cable box that hid the connections to the old transformer but we managed to correct that on the HV side of the new transformer.

I switched this old 1600a LV panel onto the new transformer and breaker and powered the solar array back up. It’s kinda mesmerising in a way, when I turned on the solar the load on the breaker went from 600a to 200a and when the sun shines really bright the current drops to ~30A at the breaker.

Last time I operated this breaker on the network it closed and opened on a fault and has spent the last 4 years closed to circuit main earth so this old boy is coming out and a more modern unit is going in!

Having your house hacked about is stressful in a very destabilising way however there are some small things that are amusing to those watching…… like doing your washing up in the shower!

The local Sri Lankan community is bringing me so much home cooked food at the minute knowing I don’t have a kitchen I’m going to have a Sri Lankan accent by the time the building work is done!

In at work yesterday, lots more cable dressing done and the LV ends terminated into the 2000a (1600a) breaker. Still need to run a 240mm2 Earth into the breaker cubicle to both Earth the cubicle and create the neutral (the star point of the transformer needs to be earthed to create the neutral)

Fair bit of prep work, separating out the cores and screens before adding allllll of the heat shrink then the lugs come off again before a final insulating boot it added, the lug worked until the clamp bolt shears then the boot is slid up over the bare metal.

Sorry for the time it took me to get back to everyone over the Confuzzled nonsense, I did not expect the post to get so much traction, didn’t realise just how many people appreciated the fursuit lounge kit I designed and built, thank you for the support and over 900 direct messages!

Cable containment for the LV side of the transformer and the new retrofitted ACB are in place, just need to add 100m of unistrut for the cable containment from the ACB into the LV panel, the LV panel will have two 1600a per phase feeds.

One of the jobs I need to do today/tomorrow is remove the old HV cable termination that went to the transformer that blew up and install/terminate the new cable. It’s 13kV XLPE cable to replace the old PILC. HV doesn’t stay where you put it so bends & sharp edges have to be avoided in the cable box.

I’m really bad as asking for help, one of the most common things Faith says to me is “you could ask me to help”. I asked one of the people in the village (who I repair vehicles for) if they could arrange for me to drop off the scrap timber from the old fence, cheeky sod just turned up & did it :p

Walked into our primary intake substation and came face to face with this just behind the 24MVA 12kV panel. CBRE have a new problem to deal with!

Fitting the cable containment before we run 7 500mm2 cables from the LV side of a transformer to this 1600a breaker then from the breaker to a set of busbar extensions in an LV panel then it’s just the 3x1x90mm2 13kV cable to terminate in the back of an HV breaker & to the HV side of the transformer

Folk I look after cars and fix things in the houses for keep bringing so much home cooked food I’m going to run out of freezer space fast! Some much needed feedback after the last few weeks. (I’ve had the precious…. I mean the coffee machine for years) but marvel at the temporary kitchen!

And a few other kitchen bits to use for a few months”. Within 24 hours people in the village appeared at the door with everything I had mentioned and every single person said the same “you always help us, we are just returning the favour” so I’m currently feeling oddly appreciated! The Sri-Lankan

End of an era, all the kit is collected from the CFz stores. It was a bit bittersweet because three of the four of us that did the main move were the original build team that built them when I first designed them 15 years ago.

(Having to rely on second hand info due to being blocked)but yes, happy to discuss in person but it will not be a one way street. I always put myself between SC staff and a problem internal or external and talking this out will involve me showing exactly what I defended them from all year…

This type of thing needs to be sorted face to face as text does not convey emotion but also because you have posted telegram chats in the public sphere you cannot expect someone to talk about a sensitive matter over text with there being the liklihood of you posting it.

Knowing they were stepping down so it is their decision whether or not they want to let sleeping dogs lie. Happy to talk in person, I’m sure there are people that will facilitate that.

This is entirely true and as I am both damned if I do and damned if I don’t respond I will Just leave this here as it may help determine who is telling the truth.

So, speaking as your friend here, when you made the really expensive prop order mistake on the run up to Scotiacon where Ciel told you not to worry about it and paid it that he would be entirely entitled to feel a bit betrayed when you posted what you posted in that con chat?

Having tripping issues with a £5M lathe because the hydraulic oil is overheating, proper field engineering covering the hydraulic tank in heat sinks. A dozen of these and some decent fans should keep it running while we get a new, bigger chiller.

On a different note, I take an elderly neighbours car for MOT (I can use the ATLs at a local centre myself after hours) and I’m greeted with what I assumed were Transit droppings…. I made a joke to the owner about transit droppings only to be corrected in that they are movano droppings!

Read through this, owning the situation would have meant apologising to me, this is basically “we went about it the wrong way but we still fired the person that had the guts to speak up and challenge us”

We'd like to publish a statement to address some rumours circulating. Today, we apologise for the impact of planned changes, outline what's happening, and our plan to fix that. We hope to reassure you of the future of the convention facilities. A web version is available here: buff.ly/mm9aepe (1/2)

So, a bit of an update… Confuzzled management have admitted that they made a mistake but rather than admit that belligerently changing the structure without consultation was the problem (which is why I blew up at them in the first place) I have now been terminated fully.
