No one had ever imagined the existence of cable bacteria: life based on internal electric wires. We aim to unravel how this unique form of life functions. Check out the Electromicrobiology Conference 2027 https://conferences.au.dk/electromicrobiology-2027

We are proud to share that @larspeternielsen.bsky.social has received the Guangdong Friendship Award for his contribution to the province’s development and friendly cooperation with other countries 🎉Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition🌟
Congratulations to @kartiksaiyer.bsky.social and co-authors for a new publication showing that cable bacteria can grow under anoxic conditions via extracellular electron transfer, with growth rates comparable to those of aerobic respiration (👉see link in comments)

Last week, we welcomed @dg.dk to CEM for our annual follow-up meeting. This year’s theme, “Conditions for Risk-Taking,” sparked engaging discussions on risk, failure, and ambitious research across career stages. Thank you to DNRF for another inspiring and constructive visit 🔬
Our postdoc, @martasu.bsky.social, will, in her MSCA project, study the symbiotic relationship between cable bacteria and seagrasses, exploring how these microbes may improve plant health, mitigate toxic sulphides and support growth under nitrogen limitation via N₂ fixation. 🌱🔬

🔍 On the hunt for cable bacteria again! 🔍 Last week, most of the Ecology team at CEM: Mie, Lea, Ugo, @larspeternielsen.bsky.social & Andreas had a great day in the field at Norsminde Fjord and Følle Vig, exploring the population dynamic and activity of cable bacteria along our local coasts🔬🌿🌊
Last week, Prof. @larspeternielsen.bsky.social was the opening speaker at the 20th Congress of the Argentinian Microbiological Society in Puerto Madryn, Patagonia🌎 Exciting to see cable bacteria joining electromicrobiology research in Argentina🔬👏We look forward to future collaborations with SAMIGE.
Huge congratulations Marta. What a moving story! 😊
As a science-loving girl growing up in Poland, Maria Skłodowska-Curie was my role model, so much so that I once portrayed her in a school play! 😅 Now, 15 years later, receiving a positive result on my #MSCA application feels surreal. A full-circle moment I never imagined back then!
