It's time to sample species interactions as part of biodiversity observation networks (BONs)! In a paper led by @gabdans.bsky.social, we show that we *can* do this by using widely available information to design sampling networks that effectively record species and their interactions.

doi.orgOptimizing sampling and monitoring of species interactions within Biodiversity Observation NetworksUsing realistic simulations, this manuscript highlights that monitoring expectations for species interactions within Biodiversity Observation Networks should be much lower than for species richness. ....

Question for those who've been PIs for >10 years: Has it always been like this?

Three years into this job, and I'm still so discombobulated by the vast diversity of tasks I'm expected to complete in a day.

Whoop! The @responsedivnet.bsky.social is now on Bluesky! Given them a follow to find out about all the cool things going on in the Response Diversity Network! 🧪🌍

I just submitted my abstract for an online talk! Thanks @britishecologicalsociety.org for offering online talk options! This makes all the difference for those of us residing far from the UK, who want to reduce our carbon footprint and $$$ costs! 🫶

THE INTERVIEW PETER THIEL SCRUBBED FROM THE INTERNET Billionaire oligarch Peter Thiel gave an interview in 2011, in which he tipped his hand about his anti-democratic plans and neo-monarchist philosophies. Since then, Thiel has erased the document from the internet. We obtained a physical copy. 1/6

If you're attending #WBF2026, stop by our session on Wednesday, where we'll discuss holistic forest management solutions that put forward biodiversity conservation. See you there 👋

New preprint by @gabdans.bsky.social, which is also the last chapter of an absolutely impeccable body of doctoral work.

ÉPICBiodiversity@epic-biodiversity.org

Information about species interactions is very scarce! In a new preprint, @gabdans.bsky.social shows that the methodology that enables biodiversity monitoring and reporting also supports the detection of species interactions, leading to multi-use monitoring. epic-biodiversity.org/blog/2026/05...

I don't have to teach, but I still feel this most days since I returned back to work after my first maternity leave.

I wrote this in a week where it felt like professoring while parenting (and equally, parenting while professoring) was impossible. This feeling ebbs and flows. Seems like Mothers Day is as good a time as any to share, maybe it will help someone else feel less alone. The More Paradox 1/8

🚨The #ResponseDiversityNetwork (RDN)'s first publication is out! Response diversity still sails in muddy waters, with researchers disagreeing on definitions, applicable scales and how it relates to ecological stability. These and other findings will guide #RDN innitiatives and work. Stay tuned!
