@ezraklein.bsky.social In your Kirk opinion piece, you gush with jealousy about the power of the platform of persuasion that Kirk built while associating the voices who "wrap his death around his views" with the dangers of rising political violence. You demand pacifism to sustain violent platforms?

I think what really disturbs you is that you see yourself in Kirk, and it makes you afraid of the repercussions of your own power. Far-reaching persuasion IS power, and you cannot have a peaceful democracy when people are played for pawns in a game of polarizing violence.

Political violence is NOT good, and as a leading peddler of it, the world is better without him. We should not glorify the violence that he fomented or the violence that brought his end, but I will not shed tears for the violence that ended a platform for fanning its flames.

You glorify the power of Kirk's platform without regard to its social effects and rebuke society about the indifference to its violent end. You encourage confusing powerful platforms of persuasion for the expression of personal beliefs.

Klein has mistaken our closely cherished belief that people should be free to express their views and beliefs without fear of violence for the idea that people at the top of media empires should be free to manipulate the masses into violence without carrying any of the culpability.

Charlie Kirk Was Practicing Politics the Right Way www.nytimes.com/2025/09/11/o...

When you truly understand who Kirk was as a societal force, Klein’s piece exposes the disgustingly cynical position of the attention-economy influencer class — that politics is a business for attention farming, everything is unserious, and people with platforms carry no responsibility.

It’s as if Klein intends to say, “He may have fomented violence by calling for public executions and bussing people to an insurrection, but this is exactly right, because he mobilized them with his words.”

There is obviously some play going on with Section 740. This is not like a way-extreme authoritarian response to an event. Literally nothing happened. This is a chess move. It seems clear he’s going around amassing as much para-military power as he can grab.

I’m guessing he’ll attempt to convert these emergency powers into permanent (or at least extended) ones and continue to find legal (or maybe-legal) ways to keep consolidating power. I bet we’ll see a manufactured crisis in DC within 30 days upon which he declares further emergency powers.

They absolutely revel in their ability to do this to people and are going to keep doing it. They cannot alter reality but they can raise the social cost of acknowledging it https://bsky.app/profile/robertmaguire.bsky.social/post/3jyhil2c2tm2z

Imagine being so oblivious to how much of a needy piece of shit you are that not only do you go to a renowned doctors house to “confront” him, but then you post it on the World Wide Web.

The thing about Elon is that he’s going down a completely familiar radicalization pathway for dumb men who spend too much time online but because he’s got seventy quintillion dollars people assume it must be something else

We have to start entertaining the notion that these people are just dumb

You are up to date.
