The last 3.5 yrs a small, stubborn team has been rebuilding an independent bookshop, powered by tea, spreadsheets & a slightly excessive love of books. We’re now officially An Post Bookshop of the Year & our MD, Mick Finucane, has written a 5 a.m. blog about it chaptersbookstore.com/blogs/news/b...

chaptersbookstore.comBookshop Of The Year 2025 Chapters Bookstore DublinIt is 5 a.m. and I am sitting at the kitchen table, my jacket and bow tie abandoned somewhere in the hall, far too wired to sleep. A few hours ago, at the An Post Irish Book Awards, Chapters was named...

Cassie Stokes came in to sign Best of Ireland and discovered the less glamorous side of publishing: several hundred hardbacks & a Sharpie! 😂 We think this will be HUGE for Christmas! 500+ tried & tested recs across all 32 counties. Less “tick off the sights”, more go, sit, meet & experience!

Is there a way of saying "sure look" as Gaeilge? Or "it is what it is"? I can't think of a comparable phrase ... though my neighbour used to say "well, I've never seen hands on an ass before" - I don't know why, it made no sense, other than he was finished talking to you 🤷‍♀️😂

Huge thanks to @chaptersbookstore.bsky.social for the perfect event to close my #IrishBookWeek east coast signing tour - and to everyone, including fellow-authors, who came and joined in the brilliant book-chat regardless of Dublin's ominous storm warnings! #spéirgorm #booksky📚💙 #AWinterWedding

Work views don't get much better than this ... I am not much good at remembering to express gratitude ... but around now 5 years ago Willie announced that Chapters was closing ... now I am working in the book nook, with tea from @arboretumGC, watching the world go by.

📚 3PM SECONDHAND SPECIAL! A Celebration of Irish Life (1990). Six beautifully preserved hardbacks featuring Maeve Binchy, John B. Keane, Father Browne & more. A snapshot of Irish life, writing & culture. Complete in its original green presentation box - a gorgeous find❤️

This, along with the phrase "I turned around", weere the two phrases that caused my Irish mother endless trouble & confusion when she was telling a story during the many years she lived in Liverpool. They coped better with 'gas' & 'craic' ... 'yoke' was tough though!

3PM SECONDHAND SPECIAL! A beauty with a history! Typo Ornamenty (Prague, 1990), a magnificent portfolio of typographic designs, from the personal collection of Jan de Fouw, the Dutch designer who helped shape modern Irish graphic design. 240 loose sheets of visual magic! ❤️

“I will, yeah.” Three words. A complete sentence. Absolutely no intention of doing anything. Colm O’Regan understands the Irish language better than most of us understand ourselves. Join him & Sharon Mannion for the Tipping Away launch on Thurs 29th Oct at 6.30pm 🎟️ FREE – book on Eventbrite.

📚 3PM SECONDHAND Frank Shovlin's new John McGahern biography has arrived, so we went hunting in Secondhand. The result? First editions of Nightlines, That They May Face the Rising Sun and Memoir. And the Memoir is SIGNED! Irish literary treasure. ❤️ #JohnMcGahern #IrishBooks

REACHER FANS! CHAIN REACTION is here! We have some copies signed by BOTH Lee & Andrew Child arrived - several sold before reaching the shop floor - be quick! And Lee, if you're ever passing Parnell Street & fancy a casual signing, the kettle's on! ☕ #JackReacher #LeeChild

Delighted to have The First Fire of Halloween included in the Halloween promotion at @chaptersbookstore.bsky.social in Dublin city centre. An iconic indie bookshop with a passionate staff. #SpeirGorm

Ok ... production value is poor ... but remember ... this is an improvement & I am an actual human learning to make something! Check out our Halloween books - explore fears safely, laugh at monsters, discover our storytelling traditions & most importantly have some fun!

Folio Friday – absolute beauties have arrived! Orlando, Possession, Brave New World, Oscar & Lucinda, The Human Factor, Fermant's Last Theorem & some wonderful myths and legends. Beautiful bindings, gorgeous illustrations and a serious temptation to start collecting.

📚 A Roald Dahl I've never seen before! The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More (1977). Seven wonderfully strange tales of greed, extraordinary abilities, cruelty and chance - for the older reader! And what a gloriously battered vintage Puffin cover! Who remembers this one?

BE PREPARED! ⚜️📚 We are ridiculously delighted with this vintage Scouting & Wolf Cub collection in Secondhand. Knots, badges, campfire songs, glorious illustrations and some beautiful old Ladybirds. Who remembers earning their badges? And can you still tie the knots? 💚

This is The Mighty Crong! Thanks to @oisinmcgann.bsky.social for coming in - it was a brilliant session & @dublincityoflit.bsky.social for all their support!

Thanks to @chaptersbookstore.bsky.social in Dublin for having me in for another kids’ illustration session. This is what the children had me draw at the end of the session this time. I signed some novels for the shop too, if you’re into that kind of thing.
