One of the basic tests of 2028 will be a candidate's ability to 1. communicate how they intend to satisfy voters without being completely out of touch with the realities of politics & 2. Ensure coverage of that communication doesn't distort the message into uselessness

Mike Black@mikeblack114.bsky.social

well this place is reacting to this about how I expected there's not gonna be 60 senate dems and the GOP won't vote to convict trump no matter what, I dunno what to tell you folks

As long as Trump is president our attitude absolutely does not have to be to "get stuff done" unless that stuff is building criminal cases

Acyn@acyn.bsky.social

Kamala Harris: I think that going in the direction of impeachment is not a good idea. I was in the Senate for the last go-round, and the votes aren’t there. I think after the election, we all have to just also agree that our attitude has to be to get stuff done…

The Biden Administration acted otherwise & the Trump Administration promptly reconstituted the entire State Department to make it truer than ever. This too is something that has to be addressed in the next Democratic presidency

BRAZIL'S LULA: THIS IS WHAT THE BOLSONARO FAMILY IS LIKE, BRAZIL IS THEIR SECOND NATION, THE US IS THE FIRST

"I should be able to enjoy the benefit of living in an expensive neighborhood, & exploit the value of my expensive house for the benefit of myself & my heirs, but also not have to pay for anything, since I don't have an income anymore" is just not a practical combination but it's what they want

Cai : go see DIGGER@annenotation.bsky.social

A lot of old people should be able to live in their existing communities where they have ties. But this could be accomplished in some cases by having multiple old people live in the same house, even if they're not related.

When I was in eighth grade my class did a three-month stock market game. Three of us made money, most of us who actually tried to trade went bust, some of us went deep into debt. I made more than a billion dollars, but that's because I was insider trading. All in all fairly realistic tbh

Jason Bailey@jasondashbailey.com

Absolutely cursed fucking phrase that I read for the first time today: "young-adult traders"

Vance needs this to work for him in 2032 when Trump won't be there to help him anymore. We need to make sure it doesn't

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

Vance: "We have to understand what happens when our nation gives in to these kinds of people, to young men with zero attachment to its land or to its history...The desire to destroy rather than the desire to build, that exact same cancer is what has corrupted Abdul El-Sayed writ large."

1. It's because the conservative press will talk about nothing else 2. The mainstream press likes how the conservative press sets the agenda, makes their jobs a lot easier

Jean-Michel Connard@torriangray.bsky.social

Obama’s Cheesecake Factory decor joke is going to continue to get far more play in the media, days after it happened, than RFK Jr being openly racist. Draw your own conclusions about the press based on that.

Sending out envoys to any nation who wants to pull a Thailand & invent a national quick-service cuisine, to secure a day-one American distribution & marketing network in return for fair consideration (it has to be yummy)

Running for Governor of New Jersey on a platform of a State Office of Fusion Cuisine, where we just pay people to try creating entirely new stuff.

If Lombardo goes down hard that will go a long way to discourage Republicans from sticking their necks out for Trump over the next two years. It's not enough to beat the hardcore Trumpers, we have to make the likable "moderates" pay too

thenevadaindependent.comThe early voting blog, 2026 general - The Nevada IndependentUsing actual data from those who vote early, we track November's marquee races, including those for Nevada's governor, congressional seats and state Legislature.

"We are going to endlessly politick over what our opaquely decentralized organization believes & does, & only deploy our resources in accordance with that politicking, & we have our own internal language to describe it all." That's cool, also people will never stop thinking you're weird & annoying

A week & a night until the election, & this is the best they can muster, arguing "Arabs R Dum!" when the Democratic candidate is a physician with a DPhil from Oxford

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

Affordability was the main lesson Republicans took from the 2025 elections (ex. Virginia) & Trump posted about it repeatedly. But it didn't work (because they started a dumb fucking war!) & they're still losing so now they're pretending it was never a problem at all

good closing message *HASSETT: THE AFFORDABILITY CRISIS IS A MYTH

The trick here is that farmers aren't regular voters. Most farmers are professionals like her who know on which side their bread is buttered. They're wealthy landowners with perpetual cash flow issues. Even if Trump threatens the latter, Dems threaten the former, & the former is their identity.

He loves identifying clever little variables that can't be practically managed (or even bear much discussion beyond a blog post), & he loves making excuses to not care & get paid, so this is maybe a perfect MattY take

Yes well it does require things like “empathy” and possessing a basic understanding that all of our lives are interconnected

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

Right-wingers always want to go back to some time when America was great. 1988, 1958, 1928, 1888. This is an 1858 guy, which is special because that's the only variety of right winger for whom we had to fight a war & kill hundreds of thousands to carry the point. We'll do it again if we must.

Rally speaker: "Mike Rogers is an American. Abdul has a birth certificate. The birth certificate says he's a citizen of America. You know what? a birth certificate doesn't make you an American."

I don't think there's much definite to say about turnout so far except that Democrats are clearly motivated & we are *impatient* to cast our vote & have it securely counted.
