Close second was writing TTRPG adventures and hearing from players and GMs who enjoyed them. Interestingly enough, all of those featuring in the bottom half of my revenues in the last 30 years. "Comme quoi, l'argent ne fait pas le bonheur."

We had a "Learn to Play Lorcana" event yesterday that we thought we had removed from our Calendar. 3 players showed up all the same. We had no material, nor free personnel to teach the game. Fortunately, the Monday Lorcana event organiser was in the store, hanging out with the Magic Events Judge.

At the end of the event, to "recup" some of our losses, I offered the players to buy the opened products they used for 25% off. They not only agreed, they bought more products (packs, sleeves, playmats) and said they'd show up at the Monday night events. Win-Win-Win.

You know you have achieved peak old man energy when you get genuinely excited about having a new two slice toaster and mocassins-type slippers delivered. Made myself an everything bagel with cheese. You waited 17 years for this content, all y'all.

New landlords missed the deadline for rent increase notification. I think they didn't do their due diligence and missed that my lease auto renewal is on Jan 1st, not July 1st. In Quebec, you have to give the tenants' increase notice 3 to 6 months prior to renewal or forfeit your rights to do so.

I'm a neurodivergent writer so of course I'm aware of the loredump of interesting facts wrapped into a story you're getting withoput asking for it. Awareness is not enough for me to stop myself. The impetus of getting the story out of my mind is required for my brain to return to baseline social.

Someone on LinkedIn learning about my new retail job paraphrased something that actually fully put me at peace with my recent professional decision: "Gen Xers don't usually retire from something, they retire to something, preferably something they liked as a young adult"

That and pretty much everyone but me saying taking the new job was a great move on my part. Baring an economic apocalypse wiping the next 20 years of market growth, I can coast to a cushy retirement, thanks to past Phil, his financial anxiety, luck, and a lot of privilege.

Oldest D&D memories (I was between the age of 10 and 12) I was playing Against the Giants and I had a portable hole. We found an alarm bell that called Ogre Guards. I told the DM I'd set the portable hole on the floor and stand behind it as bait while others pulled the rope.

DM: Okay? Ogres appear, charge you and fall in the hole. Me: I fold the hole, leave the keep, go the the nearby cliff you told us about and I shake the hole, carpet style, over the cliff. DM: Huh, they fall out to their death. Me: Cool, let's do that again!

Her: Friend told me I should hug trees. Me: Actual hugging? Her: No, she meant it figuratively as in "enjoy nature". She also asked me if I knew Hubert Reeves. Me: The French Canadian astronomer? Her: I told her I knew Uber Eats. Me: Did you just? Her (laughing)

Store Stories: On of today's Magic tournament participants was rude and unaware of his privilege. He more or less tried to bully the 2 counter clerks to accept a post store closure transaction so he could trade in the store credit he expected to win.

Since I was alone running the store at the end of the tournament he asked me ˋDid the staff tell you of our arrangement?ˋ I said: Yes, but I decided that it would be a No. I'm the current manager and made the call. And what would you know? He shrugged, and actually became more polite.

Last evening I combined semi prepared ingredients to have food for the coming week. I might have done the most white man thing ever: Parbroiled Rice + a jar of hot Salsa + diced rotisserie chicken + oven roasted Currywurst+Cayenne pepper chickpeas. Is this what the kids call Boy Kibble?

Store Story #2 Late 30s guy and dad came in, reminiscent of younger days collecting Pokemon cards. Yaddi Yaddi Yadda, dad bought 300$ worth of Pokemon cards and a booster box of Teenaged Mutant Ninja turtles collector's booster packs for the son's birthday. Note: Son plays neither games.

Store Stories: Uncle and Auntie want to buy The Hobbit Magic cards for an 11 yo nephew who collects cards but not playing yet. I sold them a pre-release kit. They then got one booster for each kid invited at the party. And 3 for the uncle because he sensed the addictive power of the game...

I had a can of chickpeas I wanted to use without doing a bean salad or hummus. I ended up drying them, tossing them with all kinds of spices (including a curry wurst mix) and oven roasted them. Now I have crunchy snack and salad fodder.

Me: Mutant: Year Zero is 22$ Also Me: Oh it's a PC game, should I replug my gaming laptop. Steam machine: Arumph! (Spongebob voice: A leettle lateur) Streaming Mutant: Year Zero from my Steamn Machine to my M4 Mac Mini with the magic of a Gigabit wired connection!

My absolute favorite thing about being the assistant manager of Face à Face Games is meeting out of province Canadians and sharing this connection that shatters 50 years of "othering politics". Them: I am from (province), sorry. I forgot most of my high school immersion French Me: Welcome!
