Trump: "So I'm studying him. And I made the mistake of saying that I started off by studying his ass. I just wantasink. And then I looked at his feet & they were massive. I made the mistake of studying his anatomy. Maybe I should do that with Ken Paxton, but I'm not sure your body is gonna qualify."

Over 2,000 alumni from Vivek’s all-boys catholic high school in Cincinnati have signed and circulated a petition demanding that he pull the ad and issue a public apology for “ignoring the moral responsibilities” of his Jesuit education. I think he’s pretty cooked.

Last week, Anthrax. This week, Europe. I've been listening to these bands for 40 years so it's pretty cool (and I still can't believe it) to be able to speak with members about NEW albums they are putting out. Here's my interview with Ian Haugland.

BigTakeoverMag@bigtakeover.com

Forty years after “The Final Countdown” put Europe (the band) on the map, drummer Ian Haugland takes us inside their new LP, Come This Madness, and a band that, four decades into its career, remains as interested in moving forward as it is reliving its past. Interview by @chipmidnight.bsky.social!

I truly, deeply, sincerely do think the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries with his paycheck alone. That's kind of the whole point of having a job and I can't believe this is considered a radical position.🤷🏽‍♀️

Trump on his Iran war: "You have a higher gas -- it's a very inexpensive price to pay for what we've done. Remember that. It's a little more. Frankly, even if it was a lot more."

This is the idea behind the @digmeoutpodcast.com. The hosts review albums from the 90s that were overlooked and underappreciated. There are over 800 episodes to check out. My pick is an album that DMO hasn't reviewed, Comet's Chandelier Musings. Think Low, Bedhead, Mercury Rev, etc

a poll idea that just popped into my head: since we've collectively been doing 90's nostalgia for awhile as a culture, what's your secret/stealth best 90's album? not something necessarily widely super critically beloved but is nonetheless great and defining for you?

some news: the "letterboxd for concerts" site i'm building is now called HearHear 👏 Encore was a fine name, but not unique enough. i've been writing the HearHear newsletter for years, and this shift just feels right. sign up to build your life in live music: hearhear.fm (app coming soon!) 👀

hearhear.fmHearHear — Concert Diary & Show TrackerTrack every show you've been to, rate sets, share notes with friends, and discover what's playing near you. The concert diary for live music fans.

Didn't realize the name change took place in '85. Just a few years before I attended my first show there (might have been Enuff Z' Nuff).

That I will go out with my family, my friends, I'll do it any way - I don't care if I'm registered or not, I'm going to try to cheat like hell..."

Saw the weather forecast, decided not to drive to Cleveland today. After the first few innings, was like, "Glad I made the right choice." I guess I should never count the Guards out. Let's get another one tonight.

I think I've already got my favorite album of the year locked up, but the new Wild Pink album is definitely going to be towards the top of my year-end list. Here's my interview with John Ross.

BigTakeoverMag@bigtakeover.com

John Ross’s songwriting blends the Tom Petty influence instilled as a kid growing up in Florida with Bruce Springsteen’s working class ethos. That combination has made him one of the defining voices of heartland indie rock, standing alongside peers MJ Lenderman, Fust, and Big Thief.

The new Johanna Samuels album is so good, it reminds me of sitting in the backseat of my mom's station wagon in the mid-70s. It was great getting to know Johanna and understand how this album came about.

BigTakeoverMag@bigtakeover.com

Combining an intimate ’70s Laurel Canyon warmth with the distinctive chord changes of early-aughts songwriting, Johanna Samuels’ Sorry, Kid, is a modern take on nostalgia, a collection of songs with a history spanning decades. Interview by @chipmidnight.bsky.social!
