in related French bafflement news: there were a lot, like a *lot* lot, of customer-facing signs and screens in France that said things like "I scan my purchases" instead of "please scan your purchases"

trash can that says "I throw my food waste here" so that I'll read it and say "wow, that's so true, I do throw my food waste here" and throw my food waste there

it should be called the burritos. and then they should stop pronouncing the s and start spelling it burritô. I thought that was like their thing. and then O'Tacos should go bankrupt (I had a tacos there once and they were rude and I didn't like it)

it's kind of amazing that the first vowel in "speedometer" is (for most people?) KIT/schwi/schwa and not FLEECE

I never realized how "USA" it is that the average caller on A Way With Words goes "oh wow, that's so interesting!" until they had a German lady call in and she went "mhm .... well yes... mhm... I knew that too"

the average Belgian response to someone explaining a word's origin you were curious about would be more like... "aaaahhhh oké" maybe
