Why do Democrats engage in such violent language?

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

Ted Cruz: "When Mamdani says he wants to seize the means of production, he means it." Crowd: "HE SHOULD BE SHOT!" Cruz: "When Abdul El-Sayed says he has an obligation to Sharia Law, he means it." Crowd: "HE SHOULD BE SHOT!"

I know Hegseth/Noem/Gabbard/Bondi/and the rest get most of the negative press around here, but none of them approach the level of disdain and disgust I have for Robert Kennedy. He may very well beat all other members of Trump’s cabinet when it comes to needless death and suffering.

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

"Cassidy and McConnell could do a literal world of good if they spent the rest of 2026 speaking out against Kennedy and joining his Democratic critics in calling for him to be removed from his job." That, or another miracle, would be amazing.

I was playing Settlers of Cataan the other night when a 7 came up and I lost half of my resource cards (which happens if you roll seven and have more than seven resources). It occurred to me we should make this a rule in real life.

I’m sensing a shift in the air. It’s the next stage of FAFO. Not only are we not willing to help MAGA understand why they are wrong, we really don’t care if they never do. We’ve gone past hate into something far worse: indifference.

I actually think this is a necessary step towards healing the country. We cannot go forward if MAGA is allowed a soft landing from which they can bounce back and do it all over again. They need to feel the pain this time if we are to ever re-unite.

There is no such thing as a “safe seat” for people who protect pedophiles.

Donald Trump won this district in Louisiana by 13 points in 2024. The Democrat just crushed a Republican extremist in this district by 24 points. Folks, that’s a 37 point swing to the left. We can compete everywhere and win anywhere. Let’s keep this up!

I’ll take the support of recovering MAGA, but I don’t care if they don’t like it when I call them idiots for not figuring it out sooner. If their support for removing and prosecuting Trump depends on me being nice to them, then they care more about protecting their egos than they care about children

The bubble Republicans created to keep MAGA from listening to others is the bubble that prevents them from seeing their own weaknesses. They built the bubble, sealed it off, but forgot to put in a vent for Trump’s farts.

Ron Wyden is one of the best argument as AGAINST term limits.

Kashmir Hill@kashhill.bsky.social

This is how Sen. Ron Wyden clues the public into activity that he finds extremely alarming. He does a press release about a letter he sent to the director of the CIA that basically says, 'I want to make sure you saw the classified letter I sent early today.' www.wyden.senate.gov/imo/media/do...

They think it cost too much to fight the authoritarians. Better to work with them to create as more comfortable jail cell. The truth is that compliance just encourages the oppressor to demand even more. In the end, compliance always costs more than defiance. Always.

Having served in multiple countries run by ruthless dictators, I am accustomed to their tactics for keeping their populations under control. One of them is to employ a legion of fake opposition figures who promote the false narrative that "all parties are the same, so why bother voting?"

Throughout history there are leaders who become so entrenched in their power that they begin to believe they are gods. Trump’s recent comments about his morality being the only check on his power is strong evidence that he has entered this stage.

How the Trump Administration deals with Ross will tell the rest of ICE whether Donald has their back. If Ross is made a scapegoat, expect a mass exodus of ICE agents. If Ross is protected, expect the violence to escalate.

My non-expert theory on the mindset of the shooter: he thought Good was mocking him so he circled the car to get identifying information. Then he saw the second ICE officer approach belligerently. The shooter switched the phone to his left hand and pulled the gun as he stepped out in front of the car

Did he intend to shoot her? Possibly not. But he definitely wanted to scare her. She was scared, so she turned the wheel to go right around him. He then shot once, possibly accidentally, through the windshield (almost hitting the other officer).

Then he popped off two more shots as he got a clear view of her through the side window. Killing her instantly. He then said “fucking bitch” because that was what he really thought about her. She made fun of him, so she got what she deserved.

I don’t know if anybody else has commented on this, but from the angle of the first shot, it looks like the shooter came very close to hitting the other ice officer. He didn’t, but he came awfully the close. In fact that officer looks like he’s reflexively, pulling his arm back in surprise.

MAGA has been living in a self-induced mania of a hellscape that no one else can see. Now that they have power, they are doing everything they can to make their delusions real. They want everyone else to be as scared as they are because it is the only thing that gives them pleasure.

They are enforcers. But not of the law.

Freethinker@69eerrr.bsky.social

The media (and everyone else) need to stop referring to ICE as "law enforcement". They are out to perform "ethnic cleansing" and to terrorize the population. There is nothing "lawful" about it.

I hate shippers. I don’t want to hate them. I want people to love the stories they love, and shipping is just another story. But shippers cannot give the same courtesy to others. If their ship doesn’t come in it’s because of bad writing or a conspiracy against their kind.

No. It’s because more than one story can be told and they can all be true. Mike’s story about the mage could be true and his friends choose to believe it is. But they are not saying any other story can’t be true. It’s up to us to decide the truth.
