sure this article's gonna take me probably a week to rewrite but its worth it because i get to put maryland DYK trivia on the wikipedia main page 😃

i was planning to do a DYK for Paul Wiedefeld a year or so ago ("Did you know... ...that while Paul Wiedefeld was general manager of WMATA, there was a website that tracked when the Metro was on fire?") but i forgot how long it takes for editors to do a Good Article review and gave up on it

Everybody thinks 'https://' stands for 'hypertext transfer protocol secure' but it actually stands for 'head to this place, sucka' followed by a colon and two laser sounds

According to the unofficial vote in each chamber, the redistricting amendment largely passed along party lines, with only one Democrat voting against it: Del. Sheree Sample-Hughes, who represents a Black-majority district on the Eastern Shore. She is running unopposed in the general election.

NEW: Maryland Democrats just passed a constitutional amendment that would let them redraw the congressional map for 2028 in response to Republican gerrymanders elsewhere. If voters pass it in November, Democrats could enact a map like this earlier proposal to target the lone Republican, Andy Harris

Sample-Hughes, the former speaker pro tempore of the Maryland House of Delegates who has become a conservative Democrat since her removal from leadership for voting against Democratic priorities, voted against redistricting during the 2026 regular session, too.

On June 23, 2026, far-right state delegate Dan Cox won the Republican primary for governor of Maryland, defeating businessman Ed Hale with 43.3 percent of the vote. In doing so, Cox won 41 House of Delegates districts, while Hale won 30 House of Delegates districts:

Altogether, Democrats outvoted Republicans in the primaries by a 75.3%-24.7% margin, so Cox will likely lose the general election to Gov. Wes Moore, as he did in 2022. Dems also outvoted Reps in seven districts currently represented by Rs, including two won by Harris in 2024.

GOP-held districts where Dems outvoted Reps in the gubernatorial primaries: - HD-06 (50.1-49.9) - HD-04 (52.3-47.7) - HD-7A (53.9-46.1) - HD-38B (54.4-45.6) - HD-31 (55.3-44.7) - HD-30B (62.1-37.9) - HD-33B (66.8-33.2)

The legislative district that most closely matched the statewide result was the 36th, located on the upper Eastern Shore, which Cox won with 45.4-34.6. Hale's best district was HD-7A (Perry Hall), where he got 65.9% of the vote. Cox's best was HD-1A (Garrett County), where he got 64.8% of the vote.

Sadly this team is not good and is not going to make the playoffs However they don’t need a full rebuild There are enough talented players on this team that a competent GM should be able to build a winning team around them Fire Mike Elias and get a GM who takes pitching and defense seriously
