As we wait for the Rockstar tribunal to resume, here's another speech from one of the fired workers as they demonstrated outside the hearing. This is Jacob Jones, formerly an Associate Game Designer on GTA VI's open world team:

Ruining Celebrity Traitors for myself by being furious at the entire cast for cosying up to Jerry Hall, despite her having been married to RUPERT MURDOCH.

And with that, the Rockstar tribunal is paused until mid-November, as we wait to hear the closing submissions from both sides. Still not entirely sure when the judge's decision itself will be made, but presumably, it won't be long after.

We're almost a year on since the firings took place now and this has been a slow, grueling process even once the hearing had gotten underway. How strange it is that the tribunal will ultimately conclude just the day before GTA 6 releases.

Another line from Jennifer Kolbe, R* head of publishing, about the ongoing union recognition discussions at the studio: โ€œMy experience, which is now over several months, is that the reps are very reasonable. Weโ€™re having good discussions. Weโ€™re meeting on a lot of points, which I think is great.โ€

We know there are currently discussions ongoing between Rockstar and the IWGB about union recognition. Hard not to read from these quotes that she might believe this recognition is indeed going to happen.

Kolbe claimed it was unfair for the union to have said in the past that women get paid less than men at R* and that comments like this risked deterring women from wanting to work at R*. This was, I think, partly in reference to this article: www.gamedeveloper.com/production/r...

She avoided criticizing the IWGB directly for the most part in her cross-examination, focusing instead on the specifics of the Discord messages themselves. There was one moment, however, in which she claimed the IWGB had misrepresented a gender pay gap at Rockstar.

New episode of The Games Press today with @dannyodwyer.bsky.social, following his decision that Noclip is about to change the way it makes documentaries. In short, he now says he's mostly done visiting games studios in the style he's been perfecting for 10 years. Big changes! We dig into it.

Rockstar has repeatedly alleged that a games journalist was a member of the union Discord, posing a significant threat to the company's security. This is something we've covered in our earlier reporting, but there's some interesting context that just got brought up in the tribunal regarding timing.

Finally, the IWGB lawyer has just pointed out that the often-cited 'GTA car-crash' article was written several months *before* he'd been given Discord access in May 2025 and cannot be used as an example of Mr Alsworth having relied on any sort of inside information from that Discord access.

As it stands, we've not yet heard any specific examples of how Scott Alsworth has used this Discord access to inform any journalistic work he's published. Will update this thread if Rockstar offers any such examples.

Rockstar argues that Alsworth's inclusion in the server demonstrates the security breach this union discord represented to them. The IWGB disputes this characterization, pointing out that Alsworth was, in fact, an elected press officer for the IWGB and was invited into the server in that context.

The union also raises the point that Alsworth was only given access to the Discord server on the 23rd October 2025, about a week before the firings actually took place. They say he was added specifically to provide PR guidance ahead of the union getting ready to go public about its existence.

This is a ~600 word article about how Alsworth feels the games industry is too reliant on the success of GTA 6 in the light of a recent delay announcement. There's no new, or previously undisclosed information being presented in this article about Rockstar or GTA 6, it should be said.

โ€œI donโ€™t think a union would be a significant change to our business," says Rockstar Head of Publishing, Jennifer Kolbe at the tribunal today. This follows her having said โ€œ...if they want a union, they will have a union," in a recent Bloomberg article.

There's disagreement at the Rockstar tribunal as to what to call the people who leaked posts from the union discord to HR. R* Head of Publishing, J Kolbe: โ€œWe donโ€™t have moles at Rockstar. Why donโ€™t we call them whistleblowers, which they areโ€ฆ We do not call them moles because they were not moles.โ€

This can't have been an easy decision for House House to make, well done to them. By chance, I read this news just as I was watching an interview with Humza Yousaf in which he speaks about the need for those with public profile, platform & security to use them for Palestine.

Rockstar is currently embroiled in a legal battle after firing 34 staff, most of whom were involved in unionization efforts. When I asked Rockstar head of publishing Jennifer Kolbe about voluntary recognition, she said: "We go where the team goes. So if they want a union, they will have a union.โ€

ROCKSTAR UPDATE: The employment tribunal is no longer going to finish this Friday, as initially planned. The closing submissions from both sides will instead take place next month, with a further two tribunal dates now having been scheduled in Glasgow for the 17th and 18th November.

This has primarily needed to happen because Rockstar's lawyers requested more time for their cross-examination of certain fired Rockstar employees, which the judge then granted. Two employees ended up being questioned for more than a day, for example.

IWGB lawyers are still finishing their questioning of Rockstar's leadership and HR this week, but we've run out of time to hear the closing submissions. This means we're still over a month away from the result. Unclear whether we can expect it on the 17th/18th, or slightly later at this stage.

I had hoped to be there in-person to film something on the ground, but we just couldn't make it work. So I've tried something a bit different and written about it instead (wild, I know).

This is a bit of an experiment for PMG, as I'd love to make space to publish more articles (& to commission freelancers to write for us where it makes sense), but it's not clear to me whether people will see Patreon links as the home for that kind of work? Let's see how this one goes!
