Blue Intro Post: I’m Christa. She/they. I write stuff. Novels, comics, tie-ins and novelizations. I’m a retired sex worker. A Film Noir obsessive. A complicated Queer. I’m currently Going Through Some Things and plan to take you with me.

So I didn't win an Anthony Award, and neither did @cheaddc.bsky.social or CRIME INK: ICONIC but big congrats to everyone who did, especially Mia P. Manansala! Seeing so many of my queer crime writer siblings in the nomination line-up is a huge win for all of us.

Last chance to vote for my short story Hollywood Prometheus in the Anthony Awards! It's a grim bit of business set in 1950s Los Angeles and features legendary director James Whale. And hey, while you're at it, vote for CRIME INK: ICONIC for best Anthology too.

Not at Bcon (sad face) so let's talk about about the new season of THE LOWDOWN. 1. Betty Gilpin's feet. Love to see foot stuff in mainstream entertainment, but kinda wish it hadn't been played for laughs/gross-out factor. That said, she does have nice feet.

I’m headed to Bouchercon this week, and I’m prouder than ever of what *Crime Ink: Iconic* has accomplished. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🔎Our anthology has been nominated for the 2026 Anthony Award for Best Anthology or Collection! See you in Calgary! #CrimeInkIconic #AnthonyAwards #Bouchercon2026 #QueerCrimeFiction

Current gender: Murder Turkey. I was talking with the Lady V about how I was constantly in trouble as a kid/teen for doing things that would not have been a big deal if I had been labeled a boy.

I was also diagnosed with "attention deficit disorder" back then, which at the time I dismissed as bullshit, basically just "not feminine enough" disorder. (Oops, turns out that was actually sort of true-ish.)

But looking back now, we agreed that what was really happening was that I was testing the gender fence like the velociraptors in Jurassic Park, looking for a weak spot so I could escape and kill my captors.

Here's a fun (not actually fun) game: Waiting to see if my current supply of Big Honkin' Hooter Holsters will fall apart before I can get my top surgery. Because I really want to keep this Scary German Lady with the Kubrick stare away from my wallet!

The fact that my Bad Ear is being a total dick on #BisexualAwarenessDay is frankly homophobic. Anyway, virtual finger guns to all my bi/pan/everything bagel siblings out there. I see you, gorgeous creatures! 🩷💜💙

"Queer characters, women, and other marginalized characters should not have to become moral exemplars to justify their place at the center of a story." More chewy food for thought, from @johncopenhaver.bsky.social

Are we losing our tolerance for ambiguity? This week on my Substack, I’m exploring “new literalism,” Barthes’s readerly/writerly texts, and the pressure on writers to make every moral meaning soooo obiv! 😊 Subscribe/follow! johncopenhaver.substack.com/p/what-we-ta...

I found this cozy 2014 Canadian Winter Olympics jacket while thrifting with The Madwoman yesterday. I was going to claim it's #heatedrivalry related, but, unlike that show, it features a prominent beaver. I, on the other hand, can never have too many prominent beavers. 🇨🇦 🦫

Isaac Newton famously wrote “if I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” Academic progress is always iterative and builds on the work of others, and a key component of academic culture is proper citation & attribution. It would be a travesty to let LLMs destroy that.

If you're writing a novel and want to take it to the next level—find an agent, land a traditional publishing deal, or just make it the best story it can possible be—I can help. My specialty is developmental editing, and helping writers crack the code of storytelling.

For most of 2026, I've been working to secure a contract to write a comprehensive book about TV's Veronica Mars. I've come close, but publishers fear there just aren't enough Marshmallows left who would be interested. Let's prove 'em wrong! Join me & please share: www.kickstarter.com/projects/wat...
