Many years' ago, I was working at Quinto Bookshop on the CXR: Tom Baker came in and asked me a question. He was big & tall. Possibly 'handy'.. I felt (illogically) that I shouldn't have been that concerned about him when I was watching him as a kid. @ohgodwhatnow.bsky.social @seththevoz.bsky.social

Any recommendations please for coverage of the earthquake in #Colombia? Brother-in-law and his wife live there, in Cali, and though they're ok, their block is unsafe and they are with many others in a leisure centre.

Lovely evening seeing Lillie & @johnnyflynnmusic.bsky.social at @hayfestival.bsky.social . Couldn’t help myself shouting out with Alan Lomax and Shirley Collins stuff. Wonderful multi-instrumental sound with sibling harmonies. Fab.

Bluetooth decided to move my listening back to my mobile just as I was taking an incoming call. Person at the other end of the phone was a cold caller, so he was royally (cf) entertained with an analysis of the current political & strategic situation in Yemen courtesy of @snellarthur.bsky.social

Good to hear @dankaszeta.bsky.social on @snellarthur.bsky.social 's Behind The Lines podcast just now: open.spotify.com/show/4bpdB1i...

Wonder if there’s a man in classical lit who loves his wife very much but who’s a complete idiot and does the Ancient Greek equivalent of putting an event in their calendar for the wrong time & therefore misses one of her (& his) favourite people @nataliehaynes.bsky.social @hayfestival.bsky.social

Perfect @hayfestival.bsky.social Winter Weekend event this morning: @davidolusoga.bsky.social and @sarahchurchwell.bsky.social whizz through 250 years of the US and relating to present day… (Yes, subject needs more time but there’ll be more over this coming year). Sun came out too…

Good to catch Tim Bouverie talking to @davidolusoga.bsky.social at @hayfestival.bsky.social Winter Weekend yesterday.

Sorry to hear about your cat @rostaylor.bsky.social on @bunkerpod.bsky.social . Hope (s)he pulls through ok. Something us cat owners dread, even in a rural/semi-rural situation. (We also have a giant dog.. The cat is boss of course and accompanies our pyrenean mountain dog on our walks). Best wishes

Not really my (tv) scene but loved listening to @davidolusoga.bsky.social & @sarahchurchwell.bsky.social talking reality tv on #JourneyThroughTimePodcast , particularly David's personal experience. Also, got tickets to see them @hayfestival.bsky.social #HayFestivalWinterWeekend , as an added bonus.

I’m going in. Wish me luck… @originstorypodcast.bsky.social @dorianlynskey.bsky.social @iandunt.bsky.social

@rostaylor.bsky.social Hi Ros. Sorry to bother you (I know you’re busy) but I can’t remember/find the tv recommendation that you mentioned recently (that @dorianlynskey.bsky.social also referred to) on @ohgodwhatnow.bsky.social

Catching up with @ohgodwhatnow.bsky.social and was sorry to hear that @dorianlynskey.bsky.social 's standing down. (Still doing #TheBunker ?). However, won #BooksellersBingo for #WormhillBooks with DL and @iandunt.bsky.social 's @originstorypodcast.bsky.social as I have a box of #TheChineseInBritain

Good to hear @dankaszeta.bsky.social again, this time on @snellarthur.bsky.social 's #BehindTheLines podcast. And not on CBRN* this time. No, on the history of the Baltic states, particularly in the 20th Century. (*had to google what the 'R' stands for. Apologies Dan...)

Listening to the latest @ohgodwhatnow.bsky.social while stock-checking #HayCinemaBookshop for #WormhillBooks and, would you believe it, @zoegrunewald.bsky.social just name-checked some books that I had done (so went back and pretended it happened at the same time for a short video…) #JonKrakauer

When you’ve been wading through paperwork/admin/accounting for the best part of 2 weeks, it’s great to do something practical. Another ‘book cubicle’ nearly finished at Wormhill Books.

It’s a shorts, sandals and winter coat type of day.

Spot The Roebuck Competition. (Not posting this on FB - our last one was shot by the fellas up the lane..)

It's been a few years but this little visitor (who got me out of bed from a lie-in) was successfully rescued just now. #Swift #ApusApus

Wonderful to see @edithmayhall.bsky.social @hayfestival.bsky.social this morning. I wonder if she remembers me (Wormhill Books) selling a number of academic journals to her during lockdown?! I hope they contributed to her work and particularly her new book ‘Epic of the Earth. #HayFestival #Iliad

Patiently waiting for The End of the (F*cking) World with beer in hand.. @tom-phillips.com @dorianlynskey.bsky.social . It’s been my home for 38years, so not a bad place to wave goodbye..

‘The Thirties ‘ by Malcolm Muggeridge used to be a fairly common book (original and reprint) but no longer. Must be due to @iandunt.bsky.social & Dorian Lynskey’s #OriginStory. Out of stock at #HayCinemaBookshop #HayOnWye See them (not MM..) @hayfestival.bsky.social this evening.

Just googling ‘is 284,000 amps a large electrical storm?’ Unsurprisingly, the answer in ‘yes’. I can’t tell you how much this was a shock (luckily metaphorical) but Wormhill Books is ‘hors de combat’ for a while. Only 3 goats didn’t make it. Humans ok. Insurance: *crosses fingers*…

When @steverichards.bsky.social says "81, 82" in relation to the SDP on @ohgodwhatnow.bsky.social , I wonder if @nndroid.bsky.social was tempted to add ":83:84".... Sorry, obscure reference....

Sneaky pint (between evening shelving at Hay Cinema Bookshop and waiting for Origin Pizza) at The Blue Boar #HayOnWye

Well, f*ck me! Finally, we see @iandunt.bsky.social & @dorianlynskey.bsky.social at Hay Festival @hayfestival.bsky.social ! Fabulous! (Event 68 Saturday24th May 7pm). #HayFestival2025

Ooh. My normal routine is watching the previous night's Newsnight the following day while I pack books at Wormhill Books. So, just catching up with last night's and, would you believe it, @pimlicat.bsky.social 's on!! Hope it goes well.. (At least it's Paddy and it's not a Complete Loon alongside..)

@sturdyalex.bsky.social Hello Alex. Apologies if you've posted about this and I've missed it but I (and particularly my wife Debs) am looking forward to your Ancient Greek Mythology (did I get that right?!) pod. Just wondering when the first episode drops and what I need to look out for (name wise).

Blue Boar, Hay. This has been my 2nd home since 1987… #HayOnWye

‘Batchelor’s Tea’ at the Blue Boar, Hay. #HayOnWye

@quietriotpod.bsky.social *Very* respectful request not to use the phrase 'welch/welsh/welched/welshed' (as in 'renege') in your podcasts please. The origin is not definitive but the phrase is generally accepted to be derogatory.

Had to guess (and then google) at what I thought I heard @sturdyalex.bsky.social say on the last-but-one @quietriotpod.bsky.social just now. #ptooey (forgive me Alex if I've got completely the wrong end of the stick..)
