Fossil fuels make no sense for: - Cost of living - Emission reduction - Pollution reduction - Energy security - Economic growth (if you want that) - Job creation If you advocate for new fossil fuels in 2026 you are either an idiot, or paid to do so. Or both.

On Politics Live, they had the usual repeat discussion of right wingers saying high energy bills are because of renewables; when it’s because of fossil fuels. The Tory was kind of interesting in that he said we built out renewables faster than our European neighbours. Maybe we did initially…

that go to carbon capture and storage and nuclear. Not actual renewable energy, which is where it should go. And obviously, we should just get rid of the green levy from bills anyway because it’s a deeply regressive tax like VAT.

But anyway. The original point I was going to make was that the Labour MP on the panel actually dug her heels in and made the correct argument that it’s because of fossil fuel shocks and lack of recent investment in renewable energy that are the reasons our bills are so high. That was nice to see.

but that is a long time ago now. You have to keep up the pace of rollout otherwise you get left in the dust. And I think that’s what’s happened. There are other reasons our energy is more expensive. A broken pricing system, privatisation of energy grid and providers, and fake “green” subsidies…

Funny how Chris Mason is talking about how this year’s budget will be low-key in terms of tax and spend compared to Rachel Reeves (who is not progressive at all anyway). And yet voters are expected to believe that Burnham and co will deliver significant changes to make their lives better? …

I also expect Burnham to definitely approve the Rosebank oil field and probably Cambo too. I did previously think Starmer would be seen as responsible for killing the Labour Party. But now it seems like Burnham will take that responsibility. They don’t have anyone left to pretend to be left wing…

to trick the membership and electorate into voting for yet more neoliberalism. Burnham has been billed as their last hope, and I think that’s correct. The public aren’t going to believe anyone else is going to be yet another saviour. Maybe even if a real socialist somehow takes the leadership again.

This is going to really play into the Greens’ favour soon. I initially said Burnham would started getting unpopular around the end of the year, or something like that. Maybe I was a bit more optimistic than that about the honeymoon period fading fast. But now I really do think he’ll be in trouble.

Does Tom Tugendhat want to refine more Diesel in this country when it’s a fast shrinking share of vehicle fuel types? Everything he says is so mind meltingly stupid. It hurts my fucking brain to listen to these absolute morons. And he said we have a higher risk of blackouts. Install grid batteries!

Streeting being so supportive of the GMB and Unite union leaders shows how stupid and ineffective those leaders are. They’re not looking for a just transition for fossil fuel workers. They’re looking to maintain the suicidal status quo. Just as the fossil fuel companies are. Just as Labour is.

Dude; to say “this small island is not the driver of global emissions” is GB News 101. It’s wasting my digital breath to say to these fucking idiots. But it’s about the message it sends! Showing solidarity to the world! To Nepal! Your selfish mentality is what’s going to doom humanity!

I don’t believe for a second that Wes Streeting actually would have supported any kind of nationalisation of oil; or a sovereign wealth fund back in the 80s. It’s like the liberals with social movements or wars or genocides. They support all historic socialist policy (NHS) except anything right now.

On Question Time, Geoff Norcott is such a dumbfuck he literally made the same incorrect point about importing gas being higher emission than “domestic gas” that the Bloomberg woman just made. And she was immediately debunked by Ellie Chowns. And he got a clap for that? Wtf is going on. Dumbfuck UK.

They’ll warn us to stock up on canned food or not use disposable barbecues. They’ll warn us about future food shortages or rogue AI agents running amok. But they won’t take the most basic of measures against these threats; such as banning new fossil fuel projects. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

bbc.co.ukStreeting: Prepare for supply chain disruption from cyber or climate emergenciesThe defence secretary says the UK needs to be ready for scenarios including impact to essential supply chains.

Faisal Islam on Politics Live fundamentally misunderstands that renewable energy is energy security. Even if you were to buy them from your “enemy” China; and you get into a row, and China refuses to supply you more solar panels; then you already have the panels you have in place for decades more.

And it’s a similar story with Ellie Chowns (to Stella Creasey), who I’m not the biggest fan of; but she delivered a great question in Parliament today about Jackdaw and Burnham’s failure to keep fossil fuels in the ground, which is the scientific consensus and that of the UN as well…

He presented her position as being ideological and his as a pragmatic one. That’s clearly the opposite of the truth and shows Andy Burnham as a clear enemy of a healthy future on this planet for humanity. Fuck Andy Burnham. He’s a neoliberal fraud. He’s everything he told you he wasn’t.

People like Claire Fox are insane and should be nowhere near serious political discussion in this country. Just a total, insane crank. When our climate collapses, people like her will need locking up. I’m 100% serious about that. These types people are largely responsible for climate collapse.

With a straight face in 2026, she said that renewables only exist because of ideology. You’re saying they don’t actually work? They don’t actually reduce emissions? They don’t actually save people money who install them on their homes? It’s ultimate right wing crank stuff. Nothing but. Usual BBC.

What does it say about the energy situation in the UK when Stella Creasey (who was a Corbyn saboteur) is the voice of reason on Politics Live today in not supporting the Jackdaw fossil fuel project? We’ve gone so far to the right that the right of Labour are being presented as the progressive left.

I guess what it also says is that green energy investment is clearly a centre-right policy. And long has been, if you look at less insane countries in Europe. It’s not a radical position to want renewable energy investment. Big investment to supplant fossil fuels, not exist alongside them.

The actual left position would be to nationalise all energy production, embrace and facilitate more community energy projects; and use less energy in total.

We obviously all expected this announcement. So I’m not surprised by that. But just to say I would never have thought back 10 years ago that we’d be talking about new fossil fuels in 2026 and beyond. Also fuck GMB and Unite the Union. We need smart unions. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

I get what he’s saying. Someone like her is all about heart and the head. But still. Fuck that attacker. I’m so sick of good people (aka the left) being targets for these pathetic right wing pricks. Australian MP loses both legs after alleged car attack, husband says www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

It’s bizarre that this guy is the son of long-time friends of Helen Haines, and also is an environmental campaigner. How does it make sense to attack a centre-left MP who, from what I’ve read, focuses pretty heavily on environmental and climate issues? www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/ck...

That Politics Live was hilarious. 4 on 1. Four establishment Zionism defenders; against one Green member (Ashok Kumar) who took them all on and made them look like the fools they are. But going back and watching the beginning of the episode is crazy too. That guy Hannan from the IEA is crazy…

I find Shami Chakrabarti’s ridiculous response kind of sad because I used to respect her. Or at least I was liberal enough to believe what she said at the time. Either way she was incredibly disappointing on Zionism is Racism. And then there was Rachel Cunliffe who when an accusation of antisemitism

came back in her direction; started looking to the camera in order to presumably seek emotional support from fellow Zionists watching at home because the bad Green member had bullied her by telling the truth. And finally, the BBC really love Adrian Ramsay. Did they love him between 2021 and 2025?

He said that firstly Covid didn’t affect young people (ignoring that yes it does give them Long Covid, or worse, and they spread it to vulnerable, older family members or whatever. Just fucking stupid comment). And then he said we should increase or add VAT to things which impact poor people…

And then he had the temerity to say we shouldn’t care about who is impacted by taxes. We should only consider whether they bring in the required money or not. Total crazy person this guy. Clearly a Tory, as reading his Wikipedia page confirmed to me. This is just politics that should be laughed off

I randomly started watching BBC Politics South and South East for the first time in a long time (still not entirely clear to me which one we’re in, but anyway). On Politics South; one of the leading stories is around speculation that the government could end subsidies for heat pumps…

and redirect that money straight to defence. I don’t even know where to start with that. I mean just the fact that the presenter is talking about that with a straight face says so much about how normalised this insane rhetoric has become in the UK. I can’t imagine anything stupider than that idea.
