Nick Nurse did not sugarcoat how limited his center options were entering Sunday’s game against Detroit. Joel Embiid was out. So was Jabari Walker. And Dom Barlow and Ariel Hukporti and Tacko Fall. “Some of our tall guys need to come back.” www.inquirer.com/sixers/sixer...

inquirer.comAdem Bona provided a spark, but Sixers’ small-ball experiment struggled without Joel EmbiidWith Embiid managing his health on the second night of a back-to-back, the Sixers were down to three viable center options including LeBron James.

Maxey was upset after Robinson wasn't called for a foul on him, and during the ensuing arguing with Zach Zarba during the timeout, Zarba assessed a technical to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

They pick up where they left off and what was once a 21-point game is now 5 with a 9-2 start. 18-2 run overall extended to the last 93 seconds of the second quarter.

9-0 run to close the half for the Sixers, who trail 56-44. When they create turnovers, rebound and get out in transition, they're dangerous. When they don't and it becomes a halfcourt game tonight, it's trouble.

Adem Bona has helped steady the ship with some rebounding. Six overall in his first stint.

The early returns on small-ball center for the Sixers are less than inspiring. Detroit starts the game 12-1. No Sixer has grabbed a rebound. They're credited with 2 team rebounds.

Thankfully Joe is able to come back out to shoot his free throws and stay in the game.

Oof, Labaron Philon Jr. with a hard foul on Isaiah Joe, who hit the deck HARD. He's slow to get up.

Nick Nurse said VJ Edgecombe (abdominal contusion, questionable) got hurt when he got kneed in the midsection last night, but was sore today after playing through it last night.

Jaylen Brown, KCP provide the room to exhale for the Sixers with a pair of threes. Embiid hits his triple double on the Brown three that was the dagger. Sixers about to be 3-0.

Sixers have done a good job in halfcourt defense tonight (91.4 defensive rating), so boxing the game into that areas, and cleaning up the glass, essential for half two.

Sixers has 24 and 23 fast-break points in their first two games. 0 so far tonight minus LeBron, who has been intentional about getting out and running and igniting the break. Bucks beating them in that department 17-0.

Three-point volume appears to be cranked up with Wade playing and LeBron out tonight. 15 threes attempted so far (8:56 left in 2Q) for the Sixers vs. 28 in the Cavs game. They shot 40 vs. Knicks.

Nurse calls timeout after the Sixers' second allowed putback. The defensive rebounding at the start of each of the first two games has been subpar. (Has been better in the second halves)

Nick Nurse said Dean Wade (questionable still tonight) has been dealing still with some pain tolerance in his injured ankle, and ability to move side to side has been hampered and contributed to keeping him out so far.

Not sure what y’all are doing with your Fridays, but I’m not NOT going to the Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre’s production of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical in Lancaster. Certainly not.

Will attempt to keep a running count of the emojis used by Sixers players responding to false reports/quotes that mention them. So far, through game two... James: 🧢 (Mike Breen/Embiid report) Brown: 🧢 (Tatum quote) Maxey: 😂 and 🫤 (Stephen A/Doc house report)

A challenge from Tyrese Maxey laid out the stakes for the 76ers in the halftime locker room. “Are we going to be some frontrunners?” How the Sixers “clear” communication led to some early-season magic in their comeback against the Cavs. www.inquirer.com/sixers/lebro...

inquirer.comThe Sixers wanted to prove they weren’t ‘front-runners.’ They passed the first test in their home opener.Tyrese Maxey challenged the Sixers at halftime to respond after falling behind by as much as 29 points to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Tyrese Maxey on what he said at the half: "My only message that I had, I said, it’s time to see what we’re made of. Are we gonna be some front runners and dig in, and only be happy when stuff is good? Or when stuff is bad, we’re gonna fight and be resilient.”

Jaylen Brown with 6 straight points here in the fourth, and the 76ers lead it 102-95. This is the most electric (checks notes) 2nd game of a regular season I've seen

For all the times the Sixers have been within one possession, just can't quite get the tying bucket. 95-89 Cavs, 8:24 to play. Sixers had 15 turnovers in the first half, two so far in half two.

He stays in the game. James was the one who actually got fouled, even though Edgecombe got the worst of it.

Mitchell fouls Edgecombe, and Edgecombe needs a towel after that shot to the face.
