Folks, please... I'm seeing a lot of people discussing Stranger Things in a way they feel is analytical. But they're using terms that have meaning incorrectly, and showing a clear lack of knowledge. It isn't a bad thing to not have knowledge. But it is bad to reject it when someone tries to help.

And most importantly: Enjoy what you watch. I dunno why we lost that. At some point people became so cynical that they're afraid to just be an audience and not "in" on the writing and filming process. "this actor phoned it in" "that actor asked for too much movie so they cut them out." Stop that.

The purest forms of techniques were used early on. Everything after that is inspired by it and not a perfect representation. Recommendations if you actually care about cinema and not just about sounding smart on the internet: David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick, Akira Kurosawa.

Another thing: just because you didn't get it, doesn't mean it's a "plot hole." Watch it again. Think. Don't assume you're smarter than the writers/directors. So many people are calling out "plot holes" which are not holes at all.

It is very important for us to all agree on these terms because people are very confidently wrong on the internet. If you hear a word or phrase, please look it up before repeating it. And correct the person who said it incorrectly if you can.

And honestly, don't even bother analyzing until you have watched the original filmmakers who used the techniques. No this isn't gatekeeping. This is me telling you not to judge a wheel without knowing what a circle is.

This is very important. "Media Literacy." This does not mean what you think it means. It doesn't mean recognizing symbolism in movies. Media literacy is the ability to recognize bias in publications. "Cinematography" isn't a catch all for writing, story arcs, and screen time per character...

Is there a word for when your mental health is just so poor that the things you do to feel better just don't work? Like, I just went for a long walk and listened to music and noticed the songs end and realized I had no feelings from them at all. Don't even remember hearing it....

Can't help but notice that everyone that likes and trusts ai just seems like a solid C student that also didn't have any artistic calling. I miss when you needed to understand html to post your opinion on the internet...

Figures I've been having fun streaming and caught a cold that jacked up my throat. I'll try and go live soon, I'm on the mend. But once in a while my throat still feels like I swallowed a porcupine.

I tried to binge Stranger Things 5 last night, but it was getting late. I finished the first 3 episodes, and I am all in. I'm not sure how much of this story was planned vs. just making it up along the way (which is fine btw), but things are coming together so well.

Did anyone else find commentary painfully annoying? Tried watching Mario's balloon and the commentary is like , "wahhoo this is Mario who debuted on the Nintendo entertainment system in 1985 and kids around the world fell in love with this plumber you can hear the theme from the games super Mari-"

Gamer hive mind right now is in one of its "Nintendo bad" phases. That's a shame because dk bananza deserves accolades which will inevitably go to some generic indie darling that basically just made a 16:9 version of a game Nintendo created 30 years ago.

I think Konami is leaving money on the table not having a Silent Hill collection like they do for Metal Gear. All the games, sound tracks, pdf of the books and art. On all modern consoles.

It's been 24 hours and I'm thinking about how good silent hill 2 is. The story and the way it's told is very haunting. I played it for "spooky vibes" but got so much more. Human suffering and trauma manifesting as monsters and dead towns.

I just wrapped up my playthrough of Silent Hill 2 remake. As someone unfamiliar with the original games... this was a great intro for me. I dunno how the core fans feel about the new or remade games, but personally... if they keep making these, I'm going to keep playing.
