Why can someone feel a prosthesis or a tennis racket as an extension of their own body? 🎾🦾 An EEG study from #CIMCYC analyzes how "embodiment" alters the way we process vision and touch. cimcyc.ugr.es/en/informati...
The results suggest that perceiving a hand as one's own involves a broad reorganization of how the brain processes sensory information, helping us understand how the brain continuously combines sensory inputs to build and maintain the experience of our own body.

How does accepting inequality influence political trust and how we evaluate the economic situation? A collaborative study between the #CIMCYC and the Institute of Psychological Research at the University of Costa Rica analyzes this mechanism in a country with high inequality rates.
This bias can make it harder to gain social support for measures needed to reduce disparities. 📖 Read the scientific article here: doi.org/10.1177/0213...

Helena Matute @helenamatute.bsky.social talked to us about cognitive biases: how they occur, how AI can influence them... and how we can tackle them.

😴 How does the brain combine information from different senses as we drift off to sleep? We found that the behavioural benefits of multisensory stimulation are preserved during drowsiness, even as the neural dynamics change. A nice summary by @cimcyc.bsky.social 👇 cimcyc.ugr.es/en/informati...
During our opening day, we had the privilege of hosting keynote lectures by Lisa Fazio (Vanderbilt University) and Paula Gori (@edmo-eu.bsky.social ) Access the full program and learn more about the Summer School here: sites.google.com/view/misinfo...
🧵 How do we perceive our surroundings as we enter that gray zone between wakefulness and sleep 🥱? Various studies have explored which capabilities are preserved and which deteriorate during the transition to sleep. But does the brain continue to integrate stimuli from different senses?
🧠 These results show that drowsiness does not disrupt sensory integration. 👉 They suggest that the fundamental operations for processing the environment are preserved, even as the supporting brain dynamics change. www.jneurosci.org/content/46/3...

A study by CIMCYC and the Univ. of Cambridge @cam.ac.uk explores what happens to multisensory integration as alertness declines. Researchers investigated brain dynamics via EEG in participants performing a task while falling asleep.
