I know we make a lot of sometimes hellishly noisy kit, but if you make "white power electronics" or similar laughably tragic right wing bullshit then please feel free to just fuck off and grow up. We really don't need or want your money.

"I just got a TR505 and when i set it to 110bpm on the screen, it actually runs at 108bpm so i have to sync it to my DAW" Welcome to the wonderful world of vintage hardware, and allow me to introduce you to a thing called 'tolerances'. You'll get used to it. PS: thats why clock sync exists. 😉

- "Can you send me free schematics for these mods?" - "Sure" *sends scans of absolutely incomprehensible scrawled diagrams and scribbled gibberish* - "This makes no sense..." - "...and thats exactly what you're paying us for. To try and make sense of our own baffling modding notes." 😉

Can anyone explain why electrolarynx units are so insanely expensive, other than the fact that as soon as a disabled person absolutely needs something the vultures descend and add a couple of 0's to the price for no reason? What's wrong with these assholes?

Somewhere we have one of those speech synth units for people with communication problems. You press buttons and it says phrases. Its pretty simple, but for no reason whatsoever it was around £5000 new, for something that would of been a few £100 if it wasn't sold to disabled people. Its infuriating!

Do people expect a eurorack power lead to be included when they buy a module? If i'm selling something 2nd hand i'll include one if theres one kicking around spare, but I think i view them like IEC mains kettle leads. Its nice if theres one there, but i certainly wouldn't get annoyed if there isn't.

Kudos to the guy who has wilfully rejected all the conveniences and demands of the modern world, who then emails to ask us to redesign our shop checkout so he can buy things without a mobile phone, online banking, paypal, or a debit/credit card. On some level you have to admire the audacity of it! 😉

I always forget that IC manufacturers are happy to give you free samples of many parts. We needed a couple of dual matched transistor IC's to try something out. Found the SSM2212RZ, but they're £10+ each plus shipping from most places, or 4 for free with 2 day shipping from the Analog Devices site.😉

Obviously what the synth world really needs is every operating system reverse engineered and rewritten using AI by people with plenty of enthusiasm, but no quality control or UI skills. I look forward to a world where every bit of 2nd hand hardware is running its own custom bug riddled nightmare.

We're done with trying to ship to the EU. Even if we navigate the idiotic PPWR recycling rules that'd cost us £1000's, or the idiotic GPSR rules that'd cost us £1000's, or the fact that every separate item on the customs form will have a €5 fee as of 1st Nov, it'll just be something else next week.

Absolutely devastated to say we had to say goodbye to Assistant #1, AKA Wilson last night. Rest assured that next time the inkjet printer has the audacity to print something, we'll be staring it down on your behalf. RIP.

I see the Alesis SR16 is into its... *Checks notes*... 36th year of production! I do hope the 'vintage' ones from the 90s are mysteriously worth extra money, for some reason. Quadraverb, SR16, 3630, ADAT. Alesis really had a talent for massively selling units back in the day.

Well, will you look at that! An Alesis Microverb I converted to a Microverb II that runs the preset reverbs of both units, with an added reclocking knob. Theres something you don't see every day* *unless you work here...

eBay accounts that normally sell boating gear or chainsaws inexplicably selling a synth, and listing it as used, but fully working. Ask them if it's actually tested and they reply saying "oh we don't know how, we thought you could send it back if it isn't" Yeah, I'm not sure that's how it works. 🤔

Holy Shit! Someone just pointed me in the direction of the website for Behringers 'veneer of social responsibility' company, and its like a AI trained exclusively on LinkedIn was ordered to build a site to "achieve ultimate corporate synergy, but make it sound like we care". Welcome to the Uliverse🤮

"The Behringer Zentara & Zentara mini feature the same circuit as the Klon. The firm says the priority is 'to make sure everyone has access to these sounds" I can only assume Behringer genuinely think people are stupid enough to believe that they are some kind of non profit charity. It's nauseating.

The tragic thing is, I'm pretty sure there's plenty of people out there who do actually think exactly that. Like Behringer just altruistically want people to have access to music tools, as opposed to the slightly less laudable goal of them having access to your bank account.

I remember getting vinyl mastered at a studio in London around 1999, and the engineer saying that at that point there was literally one old guy in the country that knew how to service a vinyl cutting lathe and the industry was terrified as he was about to retire. Presumably they found someone else!

This is wild - somebody did a deep dive into the real stories behind this famous XKCD: sheets.works/data-viz/hol...

This audiophile nonsense where being able to reproduce higher than 20kHz is apparently a good thing. Surely even if that information above 20kHz was recorded it'd be a total shitshow up there wouldn't it? If i couldn't hear above 10kHz then anything i mixed would be sound awful to anyone who could.

The top end would be a complete mess as i wouldn't of been able to hear it to turn it into anything musically coherent. Unless your track is mixed by bats or dolphins then even if anything above 20kHz actually affected the overall sound, i'm thinking you really wouldn't want it to.

Day 2 of an inexplicably popular Facebook post, and predictably along come the muppets who don't know who you are and have no context for what you do, but still feel the need to explain basic audio and electronics concepts to you at great length like they're doing you a favour. Every Single Time.

Alesis Microverb I with a switchable operating system to turn it into either a Microverb I or a Microverb II. Both operating systems are now on one EPROM with a switch to swap between them live, without crashing. The only difference between the OS files appears to be in the 16 preset parameters.

Maybe you loose a little of the Microverb I's muffled 'character' when you replace the resistors, and the effects run slightly faster at 8mHz so reverbs are a little shorter, but the difference is very small, and if you were reclocking the thing anyway then the clock difference is irrelevant.

In terms of the hardware the two units are absolutely identical other than minor resistor differences restricting the bandwidth very slightly on the Microverb I. The Microverb I also runs slightly slower with a 6mHz ceramic resonator for the system clock, while the Microverb II runs at 8mHz.

This Microverb I in the video has had the 6mHz clock changed to 8mHz, and the necessary resistors changed to those of the Microverb II. It is now effectively a Microverb II that can also run the Microverb I presets, rather than the other way around.

One of the most baffling eBay AI descriptions I've ever seen. For a start it's for an Alesis Microverb II and literally every single claim is completely wrong, but a frequency range of 240v? Tabletop unit? 7 different sound settings? Does the colour contribute to the ease of connection? What?

Ahh audiophiles are fun... I would say something sarcastic, but it'd be pretty much exactly what they've said in the first sentence, apparently with zero irony... Why not pay thousands to not hear the things you can't hear, mainly because they weren't recorded, but also because... human ears. 🤔

Its the perfect Audiophile market. Selling things to people where its physically impossible for them to tell if the product is doing anything or not, but for ludicrous money... then actually telling them in the promotional bullshit that thats exactly what you're doing and your claims are impossible!

Every Monday morning your circuitbenders team arrive at work and recite the company motto "there is no pound worth enough to tell an idiot that they're right"... and then its straight on to stupid noises and being disgusted with humanity. We're circuitbenders, so you don't have to be....

Just reading the English translation of the Japanese Suiko ST50 Poetry Trainer synth manual that Soundgas appear to have had done, and i fear there might be some fundamental cultural knowledge and terms that we don't have and don't really translate... What kind of "honsū" are you using these days?

Honsū: • Some songs have a preset honsū. When playback starts, they play at that honsū whatever the honsū switch is set to. Moving the honsū switch after playback starts changes it to the new setting. • Songs without a preset honsū always play at the honsū set on the switch. ...clear now?

Probably the most tedious thing we've ever made. You know when you want to use a 9mm pot on a panel with no PCB and wiring to the pins is a massive pain in the ass? Well heres some 'exciting' news... They can't all be white hot marketing genius. 🤔

If you own a Yamaha effects unit from the 80's then you probably need to check for cracked solder joints like this, especially if it has those plastic board mounted jacks often made by Jalco, although here its a DC power socket. Any sockets that might take some stress are VERY prone to this issue.

These things have often lasted 40 years so arguably it wasn't suspect manufacturing, but if you have intermittent power or audio connections then cracked dry solder joints are most likely the problem. Reflow the joint with some fresh leaded solder and it should work fine for another few decades.

21 days from wondering if it was doable to a finished product! Switchable operating system on an Alesis Microverb 1/2 giving the 16 presets of both units in one. Here swapping between the reverse reverb of the MV1 and the small room of the MV2 in the same effect slot by switching the OS live.

There are very few technological advancements in the last few years that i've enjoyed more than hobbyists and small electronics makers taking the nightmare black art that is SCSI, and turning it into an easy plug in SD card and USB storage thing, just because they could. My 90s samplers thank you!😉

Might start doing very slightly different design and component choices in things so that in 20 years time if something has inexplicably become popular, everyone can have fun arguing about whether you want the rounded script font version, or the toggle switch version, or the black screw version... 🤔

Due to inescapable mission creep, once again a simple task such as getting a cheap AES/EBU to SPDIF box has ballooned into hours of research on format converters and the purchase of a obsolete firewire MOTU interface to act as a standalone convert anything to anything else box. It was inevitable. 🤔

Never quite been able to work out why every single week we get 4 or 5 emails from people saying "i was just looking at these mods on your site, they look great, can you tell me how much they cost?" You were just looking at the page with the prices clearly shown! Where else are they going to be? 🤔

This is a drawing of my friends sadly deceased cat Colin watching an episode of Midsomer Murders, expertly executed on Microsoft Paint. We liked it so much we had 1000 stickers made, which seemed like a great idea at the time... 🤔

Jünger Audio b42 digital dynamics processor. £30 because it wasn't starting up and the screen was black, but there were a few LEDs on and the relays responded to button presses. Turned out it's a really early OLED screen that dies quickly. Dropped in a new OLED we happened to have and it works fine!

The only problem is that it's digital only with no analogue connections and was top end broadcast stuff in its day so it was offensively expensive when first made. As a result we don't actually have any kit good enough to actually test it with 🤔
