Jake Wharton refuses to code with AI. When he left Cash App, he published nine requirements for his next job. Number one was: No AI. Our full conversation with the legendary Android developer is out now: layoffs, AI, Google and Kotlin in 2026.

Just in a constant state of existential dread because of AI. Does anyone write code anymore? Does anyone even read the output and try to understand it? I'm losing my mind. Why have we collectively just given up thinking and learning? *continues to yell at clouds *

Every week I get asked by the iRobot app how it's going. I don't know, man. This thing gets stuck on nothing twice a week. You tell me.

I've been revisiting C++ lately after not being in this space for like 15 years, and holy hell is the JavaScript comm spoiled. I'm using Qt and I'm still having to hand write things I feel like could have been taken care of by the framework or a library. It's good for me. I gotta re-learn.

Yeah, I'd say I've become a fan of Hazbin Hotel recently. I need more Keith David and Blake Roman songs please and thank you.

I'm so close to going full linux. If I can get my elgato and steelseries software working on there, it's over for windows.

Update on this. It's now a blog post :) Hopefully it helps someone else wanting to do something similar. cjcoffey.com/posts/making...

I wasn't expecting to waste a whole weekend devoted to getting docker setup on my raspberry pi, hosting nextjs apps and more on it. But I did. It's done now, at least lol. Anyone else gone through similar? Or is there something cool I should be hosting on my home server?

The certificates piece is going to be HUGE for enterprise workers

Evidently there's been a PlayStation outage this weekend that I had no idea about because I only play single player games lol

The absolute mad man 😆 ya love to see it

I did it. JavaScript vacuum is alive Wrote the code to control it in the browser via Web Serial API, or on the server with serialport

Got done re-doing my personal website by replacing Hugo with Astro. Did it in about 3 days or so. I have some thoughts about the whole process (things are never as easy as they seem, are they?) I'd say it's worth the blood, sweat, and tears though. Let me know what you think. Left = new; Right = old

I'll detail more of this in a post on the new site later, but the two biggest things were 1) Reframing my mind that this isn't React/Svelte/etc and doesn't work that way 2) Why can't Astro find my collections? Why do I have to blow away everything and reboot the project to show my blog posts?

this thing in programming when you’re not sure where to properly fix the problem and then you think about it like, where is the first point that bad data enters the system. what it is the entry point for the confusion. this is where you mend it

Metaphor for everything. 10/10 perfect game. No notes. I am a little sad to not see Persona 3 Reload in here though. The VAs and soundtrack deserves our respect.

This post is unavailable.

Last one for a while, but next up is Persona 5 Royal. I played the vanilla, non-royal version in 2020 just before lockdown. It changed me. I was and still am completely obsessed with this game. I think it's absolutely perfect. The soundtrack is incredible. The voice acting is fantastic.

...loss of friendship. By this time, most of my friends had moved states and the few that were left I couldn't see. Ryuji is by far my favorite character. Max Mittelman does such an excellent job of voicing him and bringing the character's passion to life. I highly recommend playing the game.

I've (for better or worse) bought the game on multiple consoles so it never leaves my side. I also pinned the soundtrack in Spotify so I never have to scroll to find the album for when I need a pick me up or just need to chill with "Beneath the Mask".

It's definitely the most stylish game I've ever played. It's one of the few RPGs that are still turn based, which I'm still salty that final fantasy gave that up. I absolutely love the story and its theme. Playing it during lockdown when I couldn't see anyone helped me kind of self-sooth that...

Let's talk about the PS2 and some of my favorites here. Tekken Tag Tournament was the first Tekken game I owned and my first PS2 game. I still go back and play it today because I just love how great it controls and the roster.

I think Metal Gear Solid 2's storytelling is unmatched. It's incredibly cinematic and the voice acting is incredible. I love going back to this one and seeing just how so many of its story elements came to fruition (e.g. AI).

I only recently got this one physically, but Persona 3 FES might be my favorite PS2 game. I started with Persona 5, but then went back and played the older titles. I haven't gotten around to playing The Answer yet, but I'll need to play it before I get to its equivalent in the remake.

On to the next generation of consoles with the greatest game of all time: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This game is what made me get into software development. Though, I never got into the game dev area, it's always been a dream and a passion of mine.

But yeah, I frequently revisit the OoT, and with Ship of Harkinian, I think it's better than ever to go back and play it now. There's a multiplayer mod for it that's super fun and I highly recommend it.

Next up, my favorite Final Fantasy game. I've always been a hopeless romantic, so I'm a sucker for love stories. I love the story in this one and how unique and fun the characters are. The design is charming and timeless. If you check this one out today, I recommend getting the Moguri mod.

I remember so vividly learning about Shigeru Miyamoto through Nintendo Power and thought, "That's what I want to do. I want to be like him." So at 13, my dad got me a book on BASIC and I started my programming journey there. In high school, I made a 1942-like game for my C++ final.
