Sparkling somewhere on the trans-spectrum. Supportive, but cynical. Prone to hyper-fixation, impractical adventures and spending years hiding under the duvet. Only interested in people who get it, not people who want it.

I could really do with spending a sustained period of time not stuck in my own head. Except we can't admit we're not always serious, not always on the purity spiral, not always safe for work. That undermines the anger against the people who took away the space to be silly, weird and... human.

Where are the lawsuits? Hannah Barnes and her cohort of McCarthyist investigators keep on attacking Gender Services who don't conform to the atrocious standard of care the rest of the NHS provides. So where are the lawsuits? Hundreds of children and adults 'saved' by shutting down care.

We have been told again and again that these are national scandals of immense harm. That's the reason we have to pay attention to these people. So... where are the lawsuits? If they are disrupting needed care, shouldn't they be taken to court instead?

If far-right goons barricaded a hospital to prevent non-white minorities from getting treatment, we'd criticise them, arrest them and take them to court. Even if they claimed those people don't deserve care or could get it elsewhere. We wouldn't shut down the hospital. So.. where are the lawsuits?

They want us to believe that *any sort* of trans healthcare is harmful, that *any* gender affirming care for children is non-consensual and damaging. Not individual mistakes. Systemic failure that justifies removing entire services. So - where are the lawsuits?

If parents were pushing children into Tavistock, those children are certainly old enough now to take their parents and carers to court. If carers were misleading parents, they've been able to take them to court for years. If care was inappropriate we should see hundreds of detransitioners.

We were told "thousands" of children would sue after Tavistock. WellBN should add hundreds more. Where are the lawsuits? The Rowling toilet-police fund promises to pay anyone who wants to take the NHS to court handsomely. They are desperate to set an example.

The important thing here is that we *know* there are individual cases where things go wrong. That happens in every branch of NHS care, from childbirth to cancer. Mistakes and accidents happen. We should acknowledge those and learn from them. But. But Barnes and co. allege systemic failure.

BTW - the reason we're hearing so much from the billionaires right now, the reason they're attacking minorities and making big threats is - they're scared. They're scared that having called us dangerous, we are going to treat them the same way. They wanted us to be scapegoats. Never forget.

This is the start of the official WBH (Week Before Halloween) where I seriously regret not having the funds to have bought a wildly over the top Halloween costume about two months ago. I'll be spending the night indoors as a sexy "woman who really needs to plan ahead".

If you've spent the week with a background noise of hate, just listen to the crowd applaud at the start and after this song. Love is beautiful.

Oh my god, it's live! Alanis Morissette has released her new version of 'Rest' with Trans Voices as a single! Performing this with her was surreal and beautiful, and I can't wait to share more when her new album drops in November: www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaiC...

I don't want to wish my life away, but can we just get the midterms over with, have a global financial crash, and return to having to barter sticks for chewing gum already? All this crap is occupying way too much space in my head.

Bayswater appears to be a 'ground zero' for institutional transphobia.

These investigations into the ABUSE perpetuated by PARENTS in the transphobic ‘Bayswater Support Group’ are exactly why abusive parents SHOULDN’T be exempt from the LGBT Conversion Practices Ban -especially as it relates to trans kids! www.thebureauinvestigates.com/stories/2024...

OK, let's start the week on a more positive note. This weekend I met a great group of trans people working to make a difference in Cambridge. That's it. That's the post. People exist and hang out without the world exploding. Sometimes that's all we need.

There's an interesting rhetorical trick being done here. "I wasn't being transphobic myself, but I was worried for my mother who might have been." Her mum will have been roughly the same as mine. They lived through the 60s and 70s. They can cope with a lot more than you'd expect.

This tweet must be preserved and used in every court, especially ECtHR. The fact that an MP is suggesting trans people be banned from mixed wards just shows the utter lie of the "protecting women and girls" brigade.

Every post on Facebook that talks about the NHS Guidance attracts hundreds of negative comments - at least half of which are bots or trolls. Because I'm a geek and 'safety' was mentioned, I looked up the numbers. There is no case to be made for segregation. 🧵

More importantly, it's clear the NHS knows these numbers. It has the stats (and many staff members know the painful experiences) that show safety, dignity and positive outcomes are all dependent on respecting gender identities. It also knows that doing so does not harm cis women.

The numbers are clear. Socially it's ****ing obvious. Even when noisy bigots want to claim otherwise. Ignoring the stats, the experiences, decades of clinical evidence and basic patterns of decency and human kindness is a choice. And it's a choice that has real consequences.

In fact there's every case to be made for protecting vulnerable trans women in hospital with inclusive policies. The thing is, there's no point whatsoever in arguing the numbers with bots and trolls. Blocking on Facebook is as effective as blocking on Bluesky. Block early, block often.

The biggest mental harm from the recent trans policy changes in the UK is that every single news item online is followed by a mass of wildly ignorant and bigoted comments. And the mainstream media simply allow them unchecked. We're normalising bigotry, and it won't stop with trans people.

He stood before the crowd. "We cannot treat people as objects. This is..." The first bottle flew through the air and smashed against the wall behind him. Another followed. Other objects clearly brought just for the purpose flew freely from the crowd. He knew what to expect. It hurt none the less.

We have a culture of venerating billionaires, and assuming some higher motive for them - whether it's Musk "saving the planet" or Rowling "protecting women". This documentary is important - how many people will pay it real attention?

Ronan Farrow@ronanfarrow.bsky.social

New project for you all: I produced “Musk,” Alex Gibney’s extraordinary documentary, rolling out now.

Here's your regular reminder: Throw out old makeup, particularly eye makeup like liquid eyeliner which should be thrown out after 3 to 6 months to avoid the risk of infection. In general, the rule is the more 'liquid' it is, the sooner you should replace it. #trans #crossdress #drag #makeup

We urgently need to speak back to the anti-trans EHRC guidance and stand firm for the rights of trans people in the arts. I'm running two in person sessions at Barbican on Oct 22nd, and two online - Nov 10th & 16th - listening, gathering data, creating a joint Call to Action - will you come?

CN Lester 🏳️‍⚧️@cnlester.bsky.social

Could you help us spread the word to as many trans arts freelancers as possible? We urgently need an industry response and roadmap following the anti-trans changes made by the EHRC - so grateful that @freelancersmake.bsky.social is working with me to make this happen - please, join us?

OK we've re-litigated the whole case against the famous fantasist and bigoted author. Those of us who have been forced to pay attention to her tantrums inevitable know the deal and have kept the receipts. So I'm not going to waste more time on her for now. We'll see how this documentary pans out.

Interesting... this reply is visible to me, but checking from another account, it doesn't appear at all.

Why be angry? A straight white dude with a large fan base finds X "welcoming" and that it gives him lots of attention. It's like expecting us to be angry when you say water is wet. Do you need us to be angry?

Chatting with friends about work and honestly it's a mess out there. Trans fiction told us the bosses would insist the role was for slightly goth women only, and came with a uniform and a full makeover. Reality says it's a six stage AI interview process for corporate busy work. We need better.

Much though everyone wants to centre Trump, Rowling, Musk and the others as the cause of all our problems - and much though they want to believe their own hype - they're just a symptom. The fact that most debate centres on them and not the systems that produced them... is also a symptom.

We don't win by being smarter, more tolerant or louder than them. We win by replacing the broken support system that enabled them in the first place. And that's not happening.

(And as an addendum: the conversation isn't happening either, for exactly the same reasons. This post will be seen by a handful of people and then memory-holed. I'm not attention farming and I'm not offering instant fixes, or validation for your feelings, so even on BSky it's marked irrelevant.)

(And we can do the same thing about corporate structures and financial incentives as well, but that's a slightly different topic). We should be looking at Facebook, YouTube and other platforms and asking ourselves "What would socially healthy alternatives look like?"

But those are hard questions that require serious thought and commitment to answer, so instead we restrict ourselves to trying to counter the latest nonsense from Musk, or outrage from Trump or bigotry from Rowling. We accept the environment and wonder why the outcome doesn't change.

Not that the argument shouldn't be made, but that it's packaged and delivered to the community in a way that completely negates its good intent. We've seen how the difference between Bsky and X dramatically changes the social interactions on those platforms.

The majority of successful online commentators are dependent on the same systems for their success, so rather than calling for changes that would disempower their enemies (such as serious alternatives to online platforms), they try to argue the moral and intellectual case against them.

If you've watched a "10 reasons why <Person> sucks" video, you should already know that having the argument doesn't change things. It's specifically missing the point that the platform that allows you to have the argument is the thing that made them powerful.

When everyone concentrates on neutralising them (or wishing them great ill) we're live blogging the "Let's Kill Hitler" thought experiment, especially Stephen Fry's version ("Making History"). The systems still exist, the reasons they hold power exist and the next person will step into their shoes.
