Somewhere there is a GOP comms guy absolutely livid that all their candidates and surrogates in MI aren't staying on message because they can't parse Muslim bashing from Arab bashing

It's kind of wild that Marco just runs his own foreign policy without anyone looking over his shoulder, not even having to fight the other schemers. He's legitimately a Roman governor.

The absolute chasm between how much attention the press gives him and actual real bonkers shit he's doing is wild. He doesn't seem to actually engage much with the actual Dept of State (unlike Pete), so does he just have fewer leakers gunning for him? Can they not find sources? Do they not get it?

I really wonder what exactly Marco thinks comes out of this Flavio play. It's not like Flavio leads a vanguard of Brazilians into Havana. I don't see Trump giving Marco much rope for some weird coup in Brazil.

I think he's made it this far bc everyone else thinks quite literally nothing of him, soft bigotry of low expectations and all that. But at the end of the day he's going to get out from under the Iran War less stained than even "put in the papers that I was against this from the start" JD Vance.

Back when they appointed him to like 8 different fake posts including Archivist, I assumed he'd have basically a no-show job at State and a combo of Grandpa/JD/Miller/Pete would completely squeeze him out, given that none of them seem to think much of him. But no, Marco endures, at least in LAC.

All I want is to live the kind of life where my daughter would overhear this video of a guy on a drunk pro-immigration rant and wonder if it was me

"ASD needs all reports, publications, findings, and capability briefs on [Project], with a suspense of the end of the day." Oh well then. Sound the alarm. ASD will have their report at the quality they surely expect from such a request...

There's a huge focus rn in military medicine on mil-civ health systems partnership and integration, in addition to NATO's general multinational mandate. That focus likely will make the spillover into civilian medicine even greater than it's been in the past:

Instead of enduring the psychic damage brought on by the small but numerous humiliations my government and employer toss at me, I've simply chosen to stop respecting myself

Can't believe this tracker eluded me for a few weeks, but here's more info on the bilateral MOUs State has been pencil-whipping. KFF has done an admirable job trying to wrangle these. There are more out there in one state or another and a lot of uncertainty even w/i the Interagency.

Every country should have an initial election and then a runoff where the voters metaphorically look Clippy in the eyes and tell it that no, we do not actually want to do the completely fucking stupid thing.

Holy shit. Global fascism got walloped today.

This is completely true all the way down to the colleague who constantly interrupt the meeting to insist they can't bear a particular burden, though they must.

The Lord of the Rings is essentially a series of faculty meetings broken up by several long walks in the countryside.

We need more Halloween content and this is peak

Heidi Wong's Halloween costume (instagram) is as the Shimmer from the Annihilation movie, with a purse using my novel. Really clever, looks good affixed to the purse.

Yes, sharing Ted Cruz's former comms advisor's deliberately bad take across a bunch of different platforms for a quick dunk is actually doing the enemy's job for them

I was just explaining to a junior colleague how pre-radar assisted cruise control in cars used to (not) work. "What was even the point if the car didn't slow down when traffic ahead slowed down?"

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

I think we should simply stop doing things that require every publicly-facing USG website to carry that giant gold "ALL AMERICANS EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION WHILE TRAVELING ABROAD" banner

Me in 2016: the piss test seems like a blunt tool that threatens to hurt a lot of good folks and the mission Me in 2026: the CAC form factor should be changed to a urine collection cup and you should have to piss in it before you swipe in each day

This doesn't surprise me. Working with Ukraine, one of the big requests we weren't ever really able to meet was more support and expert exchanges on amputee care and rehab for wounded who also had significant vision loss. Just not something the US actually has a ton of expertise in right now.
