There are a lot of amazing self-portraits in the world but my favorite one will always be Anthony van Dyck's because it just screams "sooo Javert you found meee":

Today I was fortunate enough to handle a beautiful scroll of dragon scale binding (唐詩畫譜, a chinese poetry book from the Tang dynasty).

By the way I don't know these scientists except by name and they certainly don't know who I am. They just love to gossip that much.

My neighbor Marguerite is wiser than most

My 76 yo neighbor told me we were two heatwaves away from the times of the guillotine and I was like hot damn Marguerite has had enough

sometimes I think about starting a newsletter but I'm afraid it would just be some variation of this comic ad infinitum

It's funny how the French have a reputation for being rude while our letters end with stuff like "please accept our most since salutations and highest consideration"

Reading Addiction by Design, Machine Gambling in Las Vegas (2012) : "As Sherry Turkle has observed, children often personify electronic toys that fail to act in a predictable, consistent manner and thus seem to cheat: "If you cheat, you're alive," they told her."

"Gamblers who manage to follow "responsible gaming codes of conduct," one study found, contribute a mere 4 percent of gambling revenues. "If responsible gaming were successful," an author of that study told a radio journalist, "then the industry would probably shut down for lack of income." "

I'm actually very sorry I haven't been drawing anything but I just can't rn - even if I had AC at home (and it's been out of stock for months so) I still have to walk to work and get groceries etc and I'm just trying to not die, or worse, get angry at more engineers on here again

I'd consider myself passionate about costumes and period films but these past few years I've been frustrated by how shallow the conversation has been, it's just been endless ragebait videos about how "accurate" everything needs to be (even by serious historians!).

There are discussions to have about a director's style VS the viewer's perceptions and demands VS the actual history but most of them have turned a bit into costume cinemasins, with pretty troubling comments about which face is allowed to be "from the past" and which is "too modern" (read: trashy)

I am happy that more people have acknowledged that Agamemnon's costume is extremely funny and thus good. Was pretty baffled by the reactions towards it because he was the only character who didn't look boring to me.

I always think "If someone shouted this at me on the street would I respond or pretend they're a ghost?" and if the answer is ghost then I don't reply

I'm reading A Face Like Glass by Frances Hardinge which is set in a world where people have to learn facial expressions and I'm fascinated by the concept that the lower classes are controlled through their inability to show anger:

(some teratology illustrations from Aldrovandi are probably real cases later detailled by Cuvier but he definitely did not see Boy-Pig and Super Fish-Man irl)

Very proud of myself for managing to do the Don't Bully Papa move which summons Cosette (I say while beating ponpon the little rabbit from a parallel universe)

The funniest thing by far to me (aside from the excellent designs and the fact that somehow, everyone actually speaks perfect French) is this character who's called Jugement and who is miles stronger than anyone else and will crush you before flying off?? What???
