Platform teams are mostly responsible for getting changes to production safely. Builds, version control and deployment automation were the top features on platforms. Ephemeral environments was last, with teams with them running broader platforms. What do you think? octopus.com/publicat...

Our 2026 Future of Platform Engineering report is out! We asked platform practitioners if their platform delivers on its goals. Developers were more positive than platform engineers: 54.1% say most goals are delivered, just 8.1% say limited goals were delivered.

One of our survey respondents from our new report, summing up build-or-buy much better than I could: “Build what makes us unique, buy or adopt what’s standard, and always consider long-term cost and lock-in.” I wrote about what our data shows on this for The New Stack 🎉:

thenewstack.ioCoding agents made building easy. Platform teams that build from scratch are 3.5x more likely to lack a strategy.Platform teams that build from scratch are far more likely to report a lack of a clear strategy. As AI makes building easier, the reason behind the choice matters more than ever.

Platform Engineering takes time. In our 2026 Future of Platform Engineering report, we found that 82.0% of platforms running for 3+ years are high performers, compared with 33.3% of more recent platforms. Links for more details below: Report: octopus.com/publicat... Watch: www.youtube.com/watc...

We surveyed 379 platform practitioners for our 2026 Future of Platform Engineering report. Optional platforms now make up the majority (54.1%), yet 62.2% of mandatory platforms are high performers vs. 27.5% of optional platforms. Report: octopus.com/publicat... Watch: www.youtube.com/watc...

Platform teams went from being responsible for 4 features in 2025 to 23 in 2026. I talked to Sam Barlien, from Platform Engineering about this and other findings from The Future of Platform Engineering report: octopus.com/publicat... Here is the full conversation: www.youtube.com/watc...
