Of all the cemetery images I’ve taken, this is one of my favorites. Captured in a quiet cemetery in the heart of Toronto, it shows roses placed just recently—and the love for the departed is palpable, proving that love never dies. #Cemetery #Photography #Toronto

Always stop to watch a sunset monsoon ⛈️ Horsethief Campground, Highway 313, Utah. July 2026. #landscapephotography #monsoonseason #utah #sunsetphotography

A female northern cardinal seems to be deep in thought, perhaps reflecting on what a strange and stressful year this has been. It's not the most attractive photo of that bird, but I like how it shows off the streaks of red in the outer wing and tail feathers. Sterling, Virginia, USA 23OCT26 #birds

Finally found a White-headed Woodpecker that didn’t hitch around to the back side of the tree the second I raised my lens. #BirdOfTheDay #Black&White #WoodpeckerWednesday #birds #nature #wildlife #photography

I've never heard a single duck quack as loud and as long as this one. She wanted to make sure everyone in the neighborhood knew she'd arrived. Female mallard. Burke, Virginia, USA. 20-Oct-2026 #birds

We are enjoying some beautiful early Fall weather here in Northern Virginia. To help you get in the spirit, here is a Canada goose making a splashy landing, along with a splash of Fall color. Burke, Virginia, USA 20-OCT-2026. #birds

Great #egret, red-eared slider #turtles, and snapping turtles, oh my! Not too surprised that the sliders and snappers get along OK, but if I were that egret I'd keep an eye out on that big snapper. Snappers have been known to attack wading birds. Alexandria, Virginia, USA. #birds #herps 13-OCT-2026.

Veteran wildlife photographers and birders have seen this 1,000 times - the plunge, the catch, and the toss. But as an occasional amateur who has only been at this a few years, it's still a bit of a thrill to see and capture it. Great blue heron, Alexandria, Virginia, USA 13-OCT-2026. #birds

A pair of goldfinches looking very gold in the morning sun. My paranoid self imagines that the male on the left is leaning in toward the female and saying something unflattering about the photographer. Alexandria, Virginia, USA 13-OCT-2026. #birds

"Don't go near this bridge on Halloween, or the Bunny Man will kill you with his hatchet!" Or so the #UrbanLegend of Bunny Man Bridge in Clifton, Virginia, USA goes. But it was a sunny morning so I thought it safe to stop briefly and take this photo of the railroad bridge/overpass. #photography

Simon the Sparrowhawk. This guy tried unsuccessfully to grab a Nuthatch while I was sitting watching my log pile in the woods. He landed about four yards away and I couldn't get him all in the frame. #BirdOfTheDay #Raptors #Birds #Widlife #BirdPhotography #ECK

"The FBI in 2025 under President Trump shut down an inquiry into allegations that a political adviser to Senator Susan Collins had participated in a scheme to funnel illegal campaign contributions from a defense contractor seeking lucrative federal contracts"

The eye of this green heron looks like some kind of plastic button to me, not an actual eye. It was hanging out close to the boardwalk so this photo is only slightly cropped. Alexandria, Virginia, USA 14-SEP-2026. #birds

At first I tried to find a location where I could get a shot of this great egret without that stunted-tree-island being 'in the way'. Then I realized, hey that's actually a nice sculptural element for a #birdscape. #birds Huntley Meadows Park, Alexandria, Virginia, USA 14-SEP-2026.

How about a birdscape with a great blue heron surveying his domain? Gender differentiation with GBH's is tough, but I'm going with male due to the extensive 'chest hair' ornamental plumage. The golden light on the background water evokes a vision of the coming Autumn. #birds

If you are tired of all the ugliness being shoved in your face, than take a moment, breathe, and gaze upon the elegance of a great egret in flight. Huntley Meadows Park, Alexandria, Virginia, USA 14-SEP-2026. #birds

Nice to see a US court knocking down another Trump abuse of emergency powers. Trump's love of #coal is perverse. [I hope people can read the content at this link. This snapping #turtle looks to me like it's blackened from a bad fire, but my minimal research indicates that while uncommon, this color variation isn't anything to get too excited about. I wanted to learn of its life experiences but it wasn't granting interviews. #herps #naturephotography #turtles.
