What software do you all use, and like, and feel good about using and liking? Looking for a new job and still want to do something that contributes to the world in some way

Welp, the layoff reaper pointed its bony finger at me and I am officially looking for work again! If anyone knows of any software engineering, frontend engineering, or ideally design system engineering roles, let me know!

Me: “it’s infuriating that people don’t listen to science!” Also me, feeling sick, taking my temperature with multiple thermometers, all of which have the same normal reading: “all these thermometers suck!”

I've been thinking for a while that a grim effect of the proliferation of AI across *everything* is that human work will become artisanal. Good for the humans that will do the work, still an unfortunate turn for our world though.

Wow I’m not surprised at all to see this “talk to a human” becoming a value prop. Ironically, big reason I fly Delta is because, unlike United, they still offer actual in-person support at airports. United removed all of their support desks.

I built an e-commerce site in like 2015 that had a streaming video player that featured product callout overlays, and a CMS for uploading those videos and tagging those products. That was about a year into my career and I learned so damned much so quickly. It was built in angular. Angular.

Do yall do slot controls in your design system Storybooks? I provide them, but you still have to provide the `slot` attribute on any markup you put in the control, which kinda just feels pointless, beyond showing that the slot exists.

As convinced as anyone can be that there is some good in consumer-facing AI, I don't think many people would agree that we are better off as individuals or as a world thanks to the kind of big tech companies that are now pushing AI. I feel like we need to just remember that and reject this crap.

I really think Tim Robinson is a genius, but sometimes I think, “how different is he from Adam Sandler” ?” and then I think, “am I just wrong about Adam Sandler?” It’s a wild world

Reading this "Letter to Arc Members", and this line— "If we were serious about our original mission, we needed a technological unlock to build something truly new." —is the single biggest fallacy in the entire thing.

Has anyone on this earth figured out how to use `isCustomElements` to register custom elements in Vue Test Utils? I'm going to throw something.

Americans speak whatever frickin language we want. And we also speak a bunch of different languages so we can frivkin talk in secret. We also all look different so you’ll never know who’s American and we don’t care if you know, and we can cook, like, a bunch of good foods.

Good god, now that I'm migrating from Stencil to Lit I can finally write components that extend other component classes. What a small wish, fulfilled.

Can't believe we're still thinking like this. I come from a background "in the arts" and for as *woo-woo* as everyone thinks the art world is, it's that same *woo-woo* thinking that helps people imagine the kinds of abstractions that even make tech possible.

"'Jobs that require just logical thinking are on the chopping block, to put it bluntly,' she says. 'I think the pendulum is swinging back to the creative side of things.'" Imagine a world where we didn't push creative thinkers to leave tech.

The rollercoaster of feelings about going to art school for me has gone: "This is amazing!" "I can't believe I wasted four years at art school" "Oh, almost nobody's doing what they went to school for" "People actually have a really hard time thinking abstractly. I'm glad I went to art school"

What's up with using built-in elements as part of web component implementation? Like if I want to create a custom element that requires <option> elements as children, is that valid?
