The past few weeks have been marked by Tim Sweeney's unhinged ramblings about vibecoding and Steam's showing us a Next Fest full of slop I wrote down my thoughts on we can survive those difficult times in a blog post: alicegg.tech/2026/10/27/s...

This time, I'm doing one of those Steam Next Fest thread. I started strong with Return to Zeroes, the follow up to visual novel Return to Shironagasu Island. I was waiting it for a while, since I like whacky mystery. The demo is sizeable with 2 h of reading! store.steampowered.com/app/4782040/...

I have a weakness for Nun aesthetics (probably dire consequences of catholic school) and Evil Moon just fit the bill. You shoot enemy and they just die, no need for acrobatics. Slower paced than other shooters and with a lockon, I played it like a dungeon crawler (COMPLIMENT). s.team/a/5248110

I tried this side scroller shooter, but couldn't figure out the Controls ( - 0 -) . It's a side scroller in 3D with a button to rotate the level and one to move in depth. I feel like this is a fun idea, but I need to either not suck at the tutorial or better one. I tried s.team/a/3857520/

You might not know it, but in another life, I was studying biology up to PhD. This is why I was excited to try Aptamirror, a game where you manipulate bases to form RNA Strands. You swap, pull, cut and stuff to reproduce the model. s.team/a/4589160/Ap...

Played Cap 'n Barr's, and I think the screenshot is pretty self explanatory. It's a SMB3/W like with bossfights, it's pretty cute and it's not sweaty so far which is nice! I feel already for them, typing " 'n " in steam search bar is atrocious (DnG got this problem :'D). s.team/a/4567470

I've wanted to play this for so long now, yesterday I finally did! It's a very neat concept I haven't seen like this before. I'd describe it as a puzzly dungeon crawler with rewind. Also perfect atmosphere for the witchy season

For the past couple months, I've been reading most of Fafhrd and Gray Mouser, a sword and magic type of novel. The first books are really awesome but a bit all over. It then departs to heavier vocab, plotlines that are more developed and unfortunately...

...unfortunately it comes with a fixation on some sexual themes that left me really uncomfortable. It's sad because I think they are great characters and overall, having your hero age through the books is always interesting.

I've said it in other words but Angeline era is about the joy of walking into a costco and seeing this and moving on with your life, while checklistvanias feel a bit more like checking off all the food stalls to eat at in a disneyworld

🧚ANGELINE ERA!!👼🏼 Now Out!@angelineera.bsky.social

Thank you! We deliberately designed AE to contrast against the checklist-focused exploration of metroidvanias, in favor of something less guided, and more about players making meaning from "being in the middle of what is happening in the world even if confused" vs. "uncovering what happened"

Last week, I read Shroud from Adrian Tchaikovsky, a science-fiction novel about first contact and a crash on a very hostile planet. The planet have very high gravity and the atmosphere would kill you instantly. The heroes...

...The heroes are stuck on a couch in their pod and can only see the word through a very bad camera, while strange blind creatures goes around them. It was a wonderful read and it gave me lots of ideas.

Tiring to read takes about how Wizardry in Japan "didn't evolve" or "is a throwback". The gameplay is good today so people continue to play it to this day and new games are released with that ruleset. Imagine looking at Mario and platformers and moaning about gameplay not evolving past jump.
