Hello new followers! We're Collection Ecologies 👋
We investigate histories of #collections to understand how collections can serve as archives + knowledge repositories in #envhist, & by reflecting on collections as ecologies themselves.
Check out our CHSTM seminar ⬇️ www.chstm.org/content/coll...
It was a real pleasure to contribute a piece to this fantastically interdisciplinary volume organized by Danielle Sands & Daniel Whistler, in collaboration with colleagues in the Library & Archives at @rbgkew.bsky.social 🌿

Very happy to see another article out in the world! Part of a special issue edited by the wonderful @sabinehanke.bsky.social & Anne Sophie Overkamp, from a fantastic (and very hot) workshop we had in Tübingen back in 2024 #envhist#envhum#histsci

We had a fantastic panel in the last slot of the last day of #HSS-ESHS#HSS2026 called "Pedagogies of Things in the Natural History Humanities" with @arnoldke.bsky.social, @annalsvensson.bsky.social & Kelly Whitmer.
If you were there, we'd love to hear your thoughts! 🌿

We had such an amazing turnout for this & great engagement from the audience about some historical questions, but also some very practical concerns about what it means to teach with material objects in a world of digitization, AI, declining attention span, & much more.

Not only that, but a large contingent of the wider @collecol.bsky.social network also came! So many people there working on collections, natural history, museums, environmental history, etc. 🌿🪲 What a great way to kick off the conference! #hss2026#eshs-hss
Big thank you to the many, many #ESHS-HSS people who came to @arnoldke.bsky.social and my pub night last night! Incredibly having friends from so many walks of life in one place. Let's do it again tonight - Yale drinks, CALM drinks, and of course the cèildh.

Friends, @alixhui.bsky.social and I and 70+ historians have been working on this gigantic project for three years and it finally feels like it's going to be real.

Thomas is lead researcher on the project entitled "A Testimony to Ecclesiastical Natural History and an Archive of Historical Biodiversity. The Herbarium Ruperti (1700) of the Herzog August Bibliothek". This botanical collection, compiled by a prominent Protestant clergyman around 1700, allows /2
for the reconstruction of natural history practices and networks of early modern Pietism, and it can be analyzed as an archive of historical biodiversity, providing insight into climate change 🌿
