Emissions from milk production grew by 4.8 per cent last year and dairy processing by 3.6 per cent.

Ireland's industrial greenhouse gas emissions are projected to rise again in the coming years, with industry and waste now expected to be the second worst-performing sector after transport at meeting its climate targets, according to the Climate Change Advisory Council.

Double rainbow at Hillsborough where talks to resolve the Drumcree dispute have been taking place- Garvaghy road residents say there is a document they would accept- Orange Order would not comment as they left save to say they continue to engage…..

1/This is one of 3 groups gathered on the Garvaghy Road to block an Orange Order march- the first given legal permission in 28 years. The parade is due to leave Drumcree church after 0800- in a little over an hour

The last time an Orange Order march went down the Garvaghy Road was 1997 CO2 was 363ppm of the atmosphere- something most of us were blissfully ignorant of- this morning feels like a throwback

President Donald Trump arrived at Dublin Airport for a personal visit to ireland - he was met by the Tánaiste (Deputy PM) before going to meet the President and Taoiseach (PM) and then onto his golf resort for the Irish Open

Charles Mollan, one of the Founders of Cycling Without Age in Iteland has died. He was a lovely man, and spoke to me for this report a few years ago. My sympathies to his family RTÉ News: New bike hub to make cycling accessible to people of all abilities www.rte.ie/news/dublin/...

rte.ieNew bike hub to make cycling accessible to allA new facility which gives people access to cycling regardless of their age, ability or income is opening in Dún Laoghaire.

At Dublin Castle to reporrt on the Informal Meeting of EU Agriculture Ministers. Asked Dutch and Danish colleagues what they think of Dublin's cycling infrastructure "It doesn't exist" was the answer #realitycheck

1/ Speaking at #dcuclimateconference President Catherine Connolly notes it is 7 years since Ireland declared a climate emergency but "unfortunately we have seen report after report confirming that transformative change is certainly not happening at the scale and speed that is required."

3/ President Connolly tells attendees at #dcuclimateconference "Now more than ever, we need your courage and vision to question the dominant narrative that has led us to where we are."

4/ Concluding her speech President Connolly raises the issue of war and climate "we rarely hear about the emissions caused by warfare, notwithstanding that they are inextricably linked. The deafening silence around this issue, speaks volumes and must be called out" #dcuclimateconference

Is there a way Ireland could use this to accelerate our wind programme? Divert some of that capacity here?

No, AP. The administration has announced that taxpayers are buying off energy companies. Who voted for that and why am I paying for it?

1/ A leader of the #fuelprotest told me last night he doesn't believe in climate change, said the climate has always changed and it was hotter 5 million years ago than it is now. I asked how long farmers have been around. Millions of years, he said...

4/The climate is now changing in a way that is bringing us out of the hospitable, stable period which has allowed the development of modern farming- bad news for farmers which is bad news for everyone

2/No Farmers no Food, I said, of course he said. Modern humans appeared about 300K years ago- started farming between 8k and 12k years. There was food before that (hunter gatherers) but no civilization...

3/Human civilisation with all its benefits has developed during a period of unusually stable and hospitable climate which has allowed farmers to produce enough food for others to work on advancing medicine, technology, science, culture the arts...

Thanks to all who contributed to this report- water security both in times of flood and drought becomes more important every year- bogs a big part of the story in Ireland

RTÉ News@news.rte.ie

Data from a bog restoration project in Co Wicklow suggests that some of the most effective flood prevention measures may be up in the hills.

5/ Bike is also cheaper way to commute, public transport has improved in recent years. Biggest advantage bike gives for travelling around any city is (I think) certainty- you know how long it is going to take ENDS

4/ Bus Connects promises a better route for bus users and cyclists along the spine that runs through Templeogue, Terenure and Rathmines and they were the among the worst sections for me on the bike and my colleague Barry Gallagher on the bus

2/ People telling me I was the winner today, I'd have to go well astray not to arrive first- more importantly I think I had the most enjoyable commute. The sections thro parkland beside the Dodder are a joy. Everyone should have the chance of a bit of nature on tjheir commute

3/ Other parts of the journey could put many off cycling- maybe explaining why increased investment in cycle infrastructure hasn't seen a bigger ⇡ in numbers cycling- any journey only as safe as most dangerous part. Dublin's councils have done a lot but there's a way to go to match other cities
