AIPAC ran negative ads against the progressive Democratic candidate during the primary. Now we'll get this corporatist as our Congressional rep (assuming she wins). I will not be happy to vote for Melissa Bean.

Went for a walk in the woods for Migratory Bird Day today. Used the Merlin app to help identify all the sounds. Results: Birds listed by Merlin: 8 Birds seen: 2 I either need better binoculars or more patience.

After “locker room banter” with Trump in 2005 (divulged in 2016), Billy Bush lost his career with NBC. Members of the US men’s hockey team were recently in more “locker room banter” with Trump. The joy for this team’s win has faded with me.

Is the Minneapolis Police Department trying to bring the shooter in for questioning? I would think the local Police would get a warrant and pursue criminal charges.

Since 2022, Texas has sent 32,500 migrants to Chicago. Now, they've sent Border Patrol agents to take undocumented migrants into custody. WTF? They already HAD them and could have processed them in Texas in the first place.

#31DaysOfGraves "Occupation" Grave marker of William Ambrose Hulbert (1832-1882), one of the founders of baseball's National League. He was also president of the Chicago White Stockings team.

#31DaysOfGraves "Column" A column is nice, but 16 are even better. Grave of Palmer family. The two sarcophagi are for Potter Palmer (1826-1902) and his wife Bertha (1850-1918). Three generations of Palmer descendants are buried in the floor. Graceland Cemetery, Chicago.

#31DaysOfGraves "Tree" This grave in Rosehill Cemetery, Chicago, marks the resting place of George S. Bangs. While serving in the administration of Ulysses Grant, Mr. Bangs developed the railroad mail car. This achievement is memorialized in the base of the stone tree.

#31DaysOfGraves "Figure" This statue casually sits atop the gravestone of Dr. Christopher Manuel who died suddenly while riding his bicycle along the lakefront (presumed coronary failure). He was only 40 at his death. Graceland Cemetery, Chicago.

#31DaysOfGraves "Ornament" This Laredo Taft sculpture, called Eternal Silence, stands over the plot of Dexter Graves' family in Graceland Cemetery, Chicago. It is commonly referred to as the Statue of Death.

More Landscape: There is a small island in the lake at Graceland on which only one person (and family) is buried: Chicago architect and urban planner Daniel Burnham. This photo shows the bridge and the island.

#31DaysOfGraves Peter Schoenhofen (1827-1893) Graceland Cemetery, Chicago. It features the unlikely combination of an Egyptian pyramid structure, flanked by a sphinx on the right and a typical Victorian era angel on the left. Suggested that he may have been hedging his bet on the afterlife.

#31DaysofGraves Stanley Tigerman, Chicago architect. His dates of birth and death are inscribed on the gold cube, his name is on the south and west interior sides. People visiting the cemetery interact with this by moving the smooth stones at its base onto the walls and inside the sculpture.

The shock of disbelief “seeing a familiar landscape transformed by the addition of the unfamiliar, living among everyday sights suddenly made bizarre, no longer feeling at home in places they had known all their lives.” LA in 2025? No, Paris 1940. (quote from Historian Ian Ousby)

In Iowa on July 3 Trump said: “[Democrats] wouldn’t vote only because they hate Trump, but I hate them, too, you know that? I really do. I hate them.” Happy 4th of July to my compatriots hated by the president of the United States.
