This afternoon, @bricksilk.bsky.social will lead a debate in the House of Lords on introducing a written, or codified, constitution in the UK. The debate comes after the Prime Minister indicated that he favoured introducing a codified constitution over the summer. And so...
Last week we published two expert blog posts, one in favour and one against. First, Sionaidh Douglas-Scott @qmschooloflaw.bsky.social emphasised that a codified constitution could better protect human rights and devolution, and critiqued parliamentary sovereignty as 'a key problem'. Read it 👇️
Second, Lord (Jonathan) Sumption made the case against. He highlighted the inflexibility of a codified constitution and said that it would 'greatly increase the political role of the courts'. Read it 👇️
