The crazy thing about Epic's entire position in the gaming industry, is that they absolutely could compete with Steam. They can just fully copy their UI, open the store to solo developers. Then, unlike Steam, they could literally just ban the nazis. They would win over a lot of people! Quickly!

but yknow. This isn't about being better than Steam. Its about leveraging Fortnite's popularity to make as much money as possible, so they're just blindly chasing Steam's profitability. I love that they took the fight to google and apple over their monopoly. but they didn't really commit did they?

I had to correct the educator who's been training me for the first time today and I felt so bad... im so sorry but my BFA won't let me say "we can't make red by mixing two other colors" even if its kindergarteners.

She genuinely looked so surprised when I said I literally have used magenta and yellow to make red. She has so much expertise about all the other subjects the program covers like paleontology and astrophysics. It made me feel terrible to be like. Hi. I have a BFA. Color theory is insane. Sorry

Its also gonna be so hard to teach this class and not drop the bomb that we can't actually "see" purple. At that point its not even because i have an art degree, I just love talking about light and color. If you couldn't tell already...

So the Among Us Show is incredible so far, but what i love most is actually the length of the episodes. Its been so long since we got a cartoon with 10 min Episodes!!! Everything is at least 20 min now, which is fine for some of them, but I miss the tight pacing from CN's golden age in the 2010s.

The move to 20 min has always felt so weird to me. Fiona and Cake suffered for it in my opinion. It felt like each concept would drag on just a little too long. Next they need to make seasons 24 episodes again...give us time to enjoy the world building!! Bring back filler!!!

Anyway in better news I apparently chose the right time to get back into subnautica. The whole legal fight over ownership started after a milestone review that was so impressive it made Krafton realize "ah crap we might actually have to pay these guys the amount we said we would"

"Well we intend for our shitty ai slop filter to run on an affordable gpu but for now we have to use 2 of the most expensive gpus on the market. Anyway, its super worth it so we can give every character lip filler and make every skybox look completely blown out"

You know whats also crazy is that they announced 6 days ago that Control Resonant would launch with dlss 4.5. I wonder if perhaps a surrealist action RPG is too much for the AI to handle because you have inception level manifold buildings and how the hell would AI interpret that correctly.

Any game that actively brags about using dlss 5 is going to make me assume its visuals will be more boring photorealism and I would be better off spending my money elsewhere.

Im never buying another Nvidia product. Like actually fuck them for this, I cannot believe how much disdain for game artists you must have to actually think this is the future. "Look we fixed grace ashcroft's face" is the worst possible way to sell me on a product.

If anyone else wants an Adobe Animate alternative, I can’t recommend Moho enough. It’s affordable, it’s efficient, it’s been used in feature films from Cartoon Saloon like Wolfwalkers, and the best part…NO Ai whatsoever.

You know im surprised that gamefreak with all their money (though i guess not time because they still pump out games way too fast) hasn't come up with some bespoke rigging + animating system that just Handles radically different bodytypes.

Instead they just keep simplifying gameplay which just...looses the appeal to me. I get why dexit had to happen when it did, but it feels like it doesn't need to Keep happening. At least not as much anymore.

There's gotta be enough money in the IP to seriously research new animation tech. Ubisoft was onto something that might have worked back when "AI" was still called neural networks. *sigh* well unfortunately the money is in making google search bad and not making video games better so...

Next semester I “start” on my thesis, though really I started brainstorming in 2022. One idea got shelved completely, then the next two got put on hold because they’re way too big in scope.

Spent way too much time learning how to adapt Spool to gmod. I used a photogrammetry app to scan my real Stop Motion puppet, then did the rigging in blender with a lot of help from classmates and tutorials. It takes a lot of work to look this glitchy!

Fun fact: Spool is very much inspired by Seam from Deltarune (which is out tomorrow but you hopefully knew that). There’s also a lot of Vivi from FF9 but I didn’t actually know about him until a couple years later.

Gotta say i really don't understand the appeal of most talk shows at this point. Like, idk an artist's Jimmy Fallon interview is just never going to be half as interesting as the Zack Zhang or Zane Lowe interview.

Developing AI tools is not in our plans. This will continue to be our position, at least until potential ethical and legal issues are resolved in a way that does not harm artists. Moho will continue to be a tool for artists. We still believe that the future is 2D. And it is also human.

did the cheifs loose bad enough that they might. idk. change their name and branding - signed a white person from kansas tired of seeing other white people in headdresses and red face paint

and btw the way the only sport i care about is womens soccer because the Kansas City Current has the absolute best branding and the worlds first stadium dedicated to a woman's team. the vibe is so different, and they played Not Like Us during a game first so...
