it's pretty cool that Villeneuve was like, "What if I made a movie that's good," and then the studio just went ahead and let him do that

Warner Bros Clockwork should announce another cool restoration and re-release what’s a neglected Warner library title you’d want?

The Wild Bunch would go hard, or imagine if they told Lucas to fuck himself and did the OG cut of THX-1138, or oh man what about an Assassination of Jesse James director’s cut?

to anyone here who's seen the film, are the photos animated, as in the people in them are moving like animated characters, or have they animated a 3D effect to mimic many of the photos' stereoscopic origins?

Ava DuVernay's 14th, about the 14th Amendment, uses AI to animate old photos that are in the public domain, and the filmmaker wants people to see the documentary for themselves before deciding how they feel about it. tinyurl.com/c6nj6vf7

guy's like "i'm gonna dig in on Digger" and immediately next post he's hitting us with Naipaul. Jason operating at levels we didn't know existed.

I will now discuss why I think Digger is brilliant. First, I do love the Hudsucker Proxy so a kind of screwball take on capitalism is my taste. So that's my bias...

successfully convinced my mom to vote Chow based on the simple principle of "she may not be great, but the guy running against her is a piece of shit"

Every clip I see about Bauza is so heartbreaking, he seems like such an amazing dude. Also, we gotta bring back using voice actors for animated shows and not just celebrities looking for an easy buck.

seeing conversation right now about You Can See Everything and whether, actually, it's unethical to deny compensation to doc subjects, including bad people like Holmes and Evans fascinating...

so from what i gather, the folding iPhone works like shit and a large number of units are cracking due to some manufacturing defect

one of my favourite movies of the year

Concrete Turned to Sand (London Film Festival 2026) — Personal And Universal Concrete Turned to Sand starts with a quote from Ursula K. Le Guin’s ‘The Dispossessed’. The final line of a well-chosen paragraph, “the sunlights differ, but there is only one darkness,” perfectly sets up the engrossing…

my hot You Can See Everything take: people are making a mistake by filtering their understanding of the film only through the lens of Fielder's work, when in fact it was Oppenheim who initiated the project and had the most clear influence over its style

the problem with Trump going scorched earth on Bill Maher is now Bill Maher will get to claim that, see, he's still a truth teller, unafraid of angering the powerful. even though, in his heart, he's devastated.

RIP Eric Bauza, one of the greatest of all time. Did almost every single one of those voices in Coyote vs Acme. Someone who clearly loved these characters so much that he wasn't just doing Mel Blanc, he made them his own.

i do remember, early on during COVID, my uncle was completely convinced that because he drank multiple glasses of whisky per day (i know), he was immune from the virus. he'd read it on Facebook, he said, like that was some impressive source. he of course did eventually catch COVID.

I feel like because of mark zuckerberg your average boomer or gen x american has the dietary theories of like this guy, at best

good god, i might have another You Can See Everything piece in me. ugh. maybe i should save it for later, since it ain't gonna be leaving the discourse for many months.

was Kubrick the first director to come out of self-produced independent movies to become a studio-backed auteur?

Day of the Fight: i realize now, i’ve never seen any of Kubrick’s shorts. funny to watch this in light of YCSE conversation, because yeah, documentaries used to be so much more brazenly artificial. Kubrick’s photographic eye is 😙👌🏻.

Corey Atad@coreyatad.com

what if i get high and put on some Kubrick "early works"

Day of the Fight (RKO Version): decided to give this, the previously more commonly available version, a spin. it’s kinda fascinating. they tacked on a whole new quite long opening. then it gets to the Kubrick stuff, but has some different narration.

Flying Padre: Kubrick was right, this is pretty silly. but still very well photographed. btw, these 4K transfers look fucking incredible.

The Debut is a classic Sirkian women’s picture as filtered through a deranged comedy about a lady who becomes Jared Leto good movie, really fun

anyone else play Crossplay and tried against the Maximal Mo bot? i’m completely convinced that game mode is rigged to give the bot better tiles

View full thread

now, there's an argument that by getting better tiles first and playing them immediately, Maximal Mo burns through points potential later, but that doesn't explain why it bot gets those better tiles to begin with, which is very different from playing random tiles more intelligently

(and yes, i'm sure if i was actually better at Scrabble, i could eke out a win against Maximal Mo every now and then, but like i said, i'm convince the bot is rigged to have an advantage beyond just maximal play skill)

anyone else play Crossplay and tried against the Maximal Mo bot? i’m completely convinced that game mode is rigged to give the bot better tiles

at first i thought i was just crazy, that i'm not a good enough Scrabble player (i'm not), so i was just being beat by cleverness but i started consulting a Scrabble solver site, and my first tiles rarely net long or high-value words, where the bot somehow drops six or seven great tiles every time

BREAKING: Andrei Roman, CEO of AtlasIntel — one of Brazil's major political polling companies — says President Lula has won the presidential run off.

almost nobody’s seen the film so this will mean nothing to most, but i’m sort of dreading the release of La Gradiva, when i imagine i’ll read a lot of criticism of its ending, a sequence i found so profoundly, personally devastating i had a full breakdown in the hall outside the theatre afterward

there *is* actually something emotionally difficult about encountering criticism of something that moved you so deeply

don’t listen to people who say You Can See Everything is not a documentary. to think it’s not a documentary is to misunderstand it fundamentally.

In fairness (sorry), the film flatlined the second it expanded from 4 to 472 screens. It's not You Can See Everything; it's four hours, with good but not great reviews, about someone who's already in our faces 24/7. But I do think we should watch for how easy, or not, it becomes to stream or rent.
