I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that Googling “Cheesecake Factory” after that speech will result in stories with “Cheesecake Factory” in the title.

Comfortably Boo@numb.comfortab.ly

Oh it's a *discourse* discourse

Look at that line... Never tell me the odds.

Heavy rainfall is expected across the Four Corners region today with the heaviest precipitation occurring over southern facing terrain. A moderate risk of excessive rainfall is in effect for portions of southern UT into SWrn CO. . Visit weather.gov for your local forecast updates!

23 years into my NWS career, and this is the first I’ve heard of this issue. 🤪

If you have to express something complicated like this...you're already behind the curve. #NWAS26

Always amusing to see people *hating* a professional sports team. Did I wanna see the Dodgers win? Nah. But, to revel in their loss is?… well, it’s something.

It’s a group of people paid to play for a city. I have tons of civic pride. Love me some Reds and Bengals. But, in the end, we’re rooting for jerseys. Allegiance to our towns or the towns that you hate is fleeting or manufactured most of the time. No. Not always. But…c’mon.

Tropical Storm Rachel will bring hazardous conditions to Baja California and the Southwest this weekend, including damaging winds, flash flooding, and life-threatening surf and rip currents. Coastal flooding and erosion are also expected to worsen. hurricanes.gov

10PM CT update on #Isaias: A life-threatening storm surge is expected from Dauphin Island, Alabama, to Suwannee, Florida where a Storm Surge Warning remains in effect. Residents in the warning area should continue to follow advice given by local officials.

10/09/2026, 12p ET: This is a reminder that hurricane impacts like damaging winds, flooding rain, tornadoes, and storm surge will impact areas OUTSIDE of the hurricane forecast cone. Keep up to date with the latest forecast for your area by checking your local forecast office at weather.gov.

#Isaias has strengthened to a major hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph. Preparations Within the Storm Surge and Hurricane Warning Areas Should Be Completed Within the Next Few Hours. hurricanes.gov

Being social media lead and having once been 12, I think I've now experienced every variation of anything one could say about these things.

How are the words “hurricane” and “California” making their way into so many posts about Tropical Storm Rachel? The thing is forecast to have 40kt winds when it makes landfall in Mexico. Barely even a tropical storm. It is going to rain a lot though.

Isaias is expected to strengthen and be a strong hurricane when it approaches the northern Gulf Coast on Friday. A life-threatening storm surge is expected along a portion of the northern Gulf Coast, and a Storm Surge Warning is now in effect. Residents should follow advice given by local officials.

A tropical depression is likely to form over the next day or so over the southwestern Gulf of America, with further strengthening expected later this week when it turns northward.

Please please please stop making a big deal out of the G7 reserves release. Yes, it’s 100 million barrels over 4 months. We - the planet - use 100 million barrels of crude every…single…day. Almost literally a drop in the bucket.

My 16 year old Texan has just told me “I don’t think I’ve heard that song” 😂

Gory Pieper 🎃@coreypieper.com

I thought people were being dramatic, claiming others were lying about not hearing this song. 😂 I hadn’t until there were headlines about it breaking a record of some kind a week or so ago. I’ve now heard it 1/6th times. It’s… fine? Kinda like Texas. Been here 23 years. It’s fine.

I have terrible news for “I don’t watch the news”, “I don’t get political,” etc folks: apathy has demonstrably been the most impactful political stance of our, your parents’, and your grandparents’ times, and it’s never once worked out well.

The hottest take ever: This is a fine list. To each their own.

We continue to post this partially because people get so hung up on tilt changing 😂 Maybe next year we’ll introduce “relative to the Sun” to let people relax. Such drama.

Today’s Fall Equinox at 8:05 pm ET marks the start of astronomical fall in the N. Hemisphere and is when the Sun is directly over Earth’s equator. Now through the Winter Solstice, the Northern Hemisphere will receive less ad less direct sunlight as Earth continues along its tilted orbit.

In this episode of “give a crab something and it’ll grab it”…

NBC News@nbcnews.com

A man in Florida filmed a video of a crab gripping a knife blade, saying his dog found the creature in his backyard.

I know it’s a bit reductive, but nowadays when I see what I’d previously would have been excited to know, it feels even more-distinctly unimportant. “Well, it’s about time we all opened our eyes about Venus’ PREVIOUS MOON!” We have today problems.

Heavy rain and flash flooding will be possible across several parts of the country this week. The greatest concern today is across portions of the Midwest, where there is a Moderate Risk of excessive rain. Areas of heavy rain will shift and evolve through Thursday. Stay weather aware at weather.gov

FoxNews was the only major outlet to carry Trump’s Wednesday night speech. Appropriate viewership in that 9–11 p.m. ET window was 2.5 million. So, yeah, a few do. A very, very few do.

Do... do people watch political conventions on TV?

This reminds me of Homer's "Everything's Okay" invention, where the alarm sounds unless something isn't okay.

Dorien Minor@minorwx.bsky.social

Beginning in late September, climatology favors tropical development closer to land (i.e., the Caribbean and the Gulf) as opposed to activity in the MDR. The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) has introduced a “low” chance of tropical or subtropical development for the SW Atlantic late this month.

Do... do people watch political conventions on TV?

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

it speaks volumes the allegedly manly sports-loving political party is so oblivious to broader American culture that they booked their convention directly against the first two games of the NFL season, both of which will be watched by tens of millions of people

Considered correcting some misinformation in an AI flame thread not at all even supporting AI, but that would not have ended well. So, instead, I’ll post this vaguery. Emotions run high in that arena.
