If you’re grossed out by AI and data centers piss you off, you could sign up for a membership with coyotemedia.org, an outlet owned by actual human journalists! Support indie media so you don’t end up getting your news from AI slop

How about the irony of a story I wrote for @coyotemedia.org — with my own two hands!! — getting scraped by AI and vomited up on Hoodline, the now zombified neighborhood news site where I had my first journalism job (it was real in 2014). And no, the journalist here, “Eileen Vargas” does not exist 🤖

Huge news!! This is such an important indie venue. I was in the process of pre-mourning. (American Steel show in March was my last visit, was looking for one more.) Glad there will be more shows in the future. 🤘🏼💯 @emmaruthless.bsky.social

Things I don’t do because I’m scared of men harassing me: get gas after dark. Use headphones while I run. Wear short dresses. Honk at cars that cut me off. Smile at groups of dudes. Leave my door unlocked when I’m home alone. Truth: my day-to-day life hasn’t changed at all since MeToo. Now what?

coyotemedia.orgText Me When You Get HomeNearly a decade since the MeToo movement began, women’s daily lives are still shaped by efforts to avoid assault and harassment. How do we move forward?

The trio — who wear creepy masks and claim to be SF politicians & power brokers Daniel Lurie, Chris Larsen, and Manny Yekutiel — stayed in character as they ripped through songs including “We Love Police,” “Cameras Everywhere,” and “Have Some Joy, Motherfuckers.” www.coyotemedia.org/civic-joy-fu...

After a rising political star was accused of sexual assault in June, allies dismissed it, w/ one brushing it off, saying there's a "different threshold" for assault among gay men. Two more accusers emerged last week. And now, his allies have much to answer for. www.coyotemedia.org/after-manny-...

“[We] are sickened by, furious with, and ashamed of those that seek or claim to represent the gay community while denying, dismissing, or defending sexual abuse and assault,” wrote a group of LGBT elected officials in a letter. Last month, an email from SFUSD informed me that my 7yo would be taking a state-mandated test from a company called Amira, and it led me down a rabbit hole. Here's how big tech is infiltrating SF public schools — whether families & teachers want it or not. www.coyotemedia.org/sfusd-ai-ami...

Fun fact: New York City is rolling out pilots to product test AI on high school students, and NO STUDENT WE TALK TO knows anything about it - it's almost like the model also depends on students not finding out. If this is so great, why the cloak of secrecy??

COYOTE@coyotemedia.org

“The whole model depends on parents not finding out," says ifeoma.bsky.social. "Because as soon as parents are aware, they don’t want anything to do with it.” www.coyotemedia.org/sfusd-ai-ami...

“The old digital divide used to be wanting to make sure everyone had access to tech. But the new digital divide is, who are the families who have the privilege to protect their children *from* tech? … this very much is an equity issue.” www.coyotemedia.org/sfusd-ai-ami...
