As we start to get to the “you still haven’t voted so I’m going to creepily send you your address from a los Angeles phone number to remind you to vote” part of election season, please reflect on this 2021 text from my father (Leo was my cat):

There was that hook article many, many moons ago titled “Mayorsville: Here, everybody's a mayor.” Sometimes I think of Charlottesville as “lawyersville” or “landlordsville.” There are so many lawyers and landlords here!

1. This is the cutest thing ever 2. I’ve met the 2 mayors of my hometown who’ve served in my lifetime (lol crazy). The first one served for 25 years then died in 2003 and the other has served since. 3. The current mayor in Charlottesville has no idea who I am (maybe he would recognize my name).

Child: This is my first time meeting a mayor. Mamdani: Wow, have you ever met a prime minister? Child: No Norway PM Jonas Gahr Støre: *walks over*

Even more crazy - my hometown has approximately the same number of people as Charlottesville (if you go by the census counts/estimates)! But mayors are elected by the people, and apparently no one ever runs against this guy!

“Allison, why do you have so many pre-saved alarm possibilities on your phone?” Well, because apparently my phone’s auto setting for new alarms is no sound, and then when I set new alarms I don’t notice they have no sound and I oversleep for appointments!

The fact that this is probably one of the coldest summers in Charlottesville I’ll have for the rest of my life is fuckibg insane. I’m just going to be a sweaty mess always. Please do not judge how I look or smell, I’m just trying my best.

I’ve slept in windowless bedrooms for 7 out of the last 11 years, and lots of the responses here are wild to me. In fact, my current building wouldn’t be possible for residential without having windowless bedrooms. And it was built in the 90s!

What share of architecture programs require students to pass an economics class to graduate? I ask because this story profiles the architect who just persuaded the ICC to ban windowless bedrooms in its model building code. It offers zero consideration of how this will affect building costs or rents

Even in college I had windowless bedrooms! But I was only in my bedroom to sleep! I guess my senior year bedroom could have a had a window to the exterior hallway, but who wants that in student apartments.

Well looks like I’m going to save a lot of money this season because I refuse to watch while he’s playing.

Sources: The Browns are naming Deshaun Watson as their starting QB for Week 1. The favorite going into camp. Now the starter, officially.

Last year, I went to the Browns Jets game and watched the Browns lose in the rain. I was planning on going to both games in New Jersey this year! But I will not do that if watson is playing!!!

It’s actually too bad most local media outlets think routine meeting coverage is boring because you could have answers to things like this! In Charlottesville and Albemarle, the school boards discuss and vote on calendars, usually annually, at their meetings that no reporters attend nowadays.

Robert Pattinson is ruined for me from the twilight series — he’ll always be Edward Cullen. But maybe it’s only when he’s trying to be serious, because I didn’t feel this way about him in Mickey 17!

New Fiscal Year, New Me! I’ve tried not to talk a lot about my soon-to-be-former job on social media, as I didn’t want to be mistaken as speaking for it, but my last day with the county is July 7! It’s also very weird to leave your job in the summer when so many people are out of the office.

Had to teach the interns about Mary Kate and Ashley today since one of them is pulling an all-nighter tonight and after finding out I immediately broke out in song and they looked at me like I was insane.

Big if true

I’m not really sure why I’m sharing this other than disbelief. If you watch the raw footage, someone walks up less than 30 seconds after he falls, doesn’t hit the stop button, stares, then goes down on the stairs and only tries to help for ~12 seconds. wtf. www.nbcboston.com/investigatio...
